Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Diaphragm Issues

Some time ago I dropped my N90S, and it landed on the plastic 50mm f/1.8D lens. This skewed the barrel to where it was stiff to focus. I kicked it, hit it with a hammer, and banged it on a few hard surfaces until I got the barrel back in line so that it now focuses smoothly.

However, I just noticed that the aperture ring does not open and close the diaphragm. Despite this, it works just fine with modern cameras, since they control the aperture with the little tab (I can manually manipulate the aperture using that tab).

This problem keeps me from being able to use the lens on manual focus cameras, though. Has anyone dealt with this problem, and can you suggest a solution?

Not sure what solution beyond the obvious "you have to open it and find the bit that broke from either the fall, the hitting with a hammer or banging it on some hard surface" you are looking for.

You can buy a nice condition 50 1.8D for $60-$70.

A repair would cost more than that. So buy another, and have fun with the one you hit with a hammer. Take it apart, see how it (used to) works. Maybe you can fix it.
