Nikon 105mm f/1.8 AI Nikkor - oily aperture cleaned

Hello folks,

I received a Nikon 105mm f/1.8 AI Nikkor for repair whose aperture was oily.

This is how far you have to disassemble it (but it can be done without any problems):





The oily aperture (was bathed in gasoline several times after taking this picture and then dried with a hairdryer):




If you have such an oily aperture - it’s easy to fix it.

I bought one of these earlier this year. So far I haven't used it very much but I like it. Most of the lenses I have had with oily diaphragms were zooms. When the problem can be tackled from the rear, there is less work altogether. Most repair people I have known preferred working on prime lenses. Zoom lenses can have more complications. Your photos make it look not so difficult so I am guessing you have some considerable repair skills.

This sounds a bit risky, but hey it's for photography!

Well, I have to assume they were not used simultaneously, nor in close proximity to each other in distance or time.

On paint-safe surfaces, I prefer brake cleaner; it evaporates very quickly with no need for heat.
