The local Goodwill has a Nikkormat with 50mm lens and has it priced at $35.00 what do you think.

The Nikkormat is a great camera and built like a tank. It depends upon the condition and what you might have to pay for a CLA, but I think the price is more than reasonable. For a good comp, check the KEH web site.

The meter seems to work and its in good shape a little dirty. they also had 28 Vivitar with the prong that would work with it.

I think the price is too low and since it is a charity shop you might want to give then $50 for it.

Generally they are really nice basic cameras. For the meter you might need to work around the battery issue.

Lenses without the coupling ears will work too, but you have to use stop-down metering.

What Nikon lenses will work with it. I have several but newer.
As long as the lens has an actual aperture ring you should be fine. Without the aperture ring you're shooting at minimum aperture every time you release the shutter and your exposure will be way off.

There is only a battery issue with the Nikkormat FT and FTN models. The FT2 and FT3 models use an MS-76 battery.

The FT and FTN lack a split-image in the viewfinder, and only have a microprism grid in the middle. That will make using a slow zoom difficult because you must align your eye perfectly in both directions before the microprism becomes clear. With prime lenses, its focus screen will be fine.

Thanks for the info I may go back and look at it a little closer. I have some AI lenses that have the aperture ring. Just with having two of the N80 and N75 and an FM and F5 my wife may beat me for bringing in more cameras! Thats not including my Minolta collection of Maxxum and MD cameras. I like to collect old cameras and hope to have a display set up some time.
