I recently got a Nikkormat FT2 off eBay and it's in great condition except for one thing. The shutter speed selection dial is stiff and makes a barely audible squeak sometimes.

Is there a simple fix? Can I just put some graphite someplace and loosen it up a bit?

Thanks in advance!

Ix nay on the aphite gray. It will migrate everywhere but where you want it. Try a squirt of lighter fluid, and not a lot. It will evaporate off. But first carefully inspect everything to make sure there has been no damage that might be causing this. If the lighter fluid doesn't help enough, try a half and half mixture of bike silicone chain oil and lighter fluid. Again, just a little bit. I mean a little.

OK, thanks for the info on graphite. I'm still confused about where to apply any lighter fluid.

You can apply a little lighter fluid on the outside of the shutter ring, around the gaps on the right side, i.e. the side opposite to the lever.
Be careful and exercise the shutter ring one way and the other just a bit at the beginning.
After it gets lighter to use, then you can exercise it better going through the full range.
