According to the Nikon brochure I have, the long focal length true telephoto lenses come in two series. The front element and shutter can be used with different rear elements to produce, in one series, 360, 500, and 800mm focal lengths.

I have a Nikkor T*ED 270mm lens, and I would like to learn if there is another rear element that I could use with this lens to produce an overall focal length greater than this.

I'm hoping that one of you lens gurus will know. Otherwise, I'll try to find the right contact within Nikon to ask.

TIA,

Rich

I have the 360/500/720 combo and I am 99% sure the 270mm had no convertible feature. One way to check is to look at the aperture scale. If there are multiple scales there should be other rear elements but I don’t think there are.

I have the 360,500, 720 Nikkor tele and the 270mm nikkor tele and can state from experience that the rear elements are not exchangeable in a satisfactory manner.

That's what I thought, but someone told me otherwise so I thought it worth checking.

Thanks,

Rich
