I dropped my beloved Nikon FE2 with its 28mm 2.8 ais lens and now the filter is trash. Fine, but I can't get it off. Even with a crescent wrench it won't budge and seems to move the front element of the lens before letting go of the filter. What to do? I don't want to damage the lens, but the filter must go.

Sounds like more of an APUG topic... Ask about repair over there.

I'd take it to a Nikon repair shop rather than grabbing a wrench...

Got it fixed. Slipped off the ring on the front of the filter and the glass popped out. From there snipped the filter part way down at one point and then pulled the end in and off.
