Nikkor 50/1.4 (pre-AI) adapter

Are there any adapters to make use of a Nikkor 50/1.4 pre-Ai on Ai Nikon cameras? This I guess is my only option, other than send the lens to be converted to AI.

There is no adapter that can do that. For a lot of pre AI lenses you can make the modification yourself like in the link Allan posted. However, I think there are some Pre AI lenses that the aperture ring don't extend that far and you can mount it on an AI body without damage but they won't provide the AI coupling function either.

Of course there are a few AI cameras with an AI tab that flips out of the way.
