nikeon fe cable release screw

does the nikon fe have a standard shutter release socket
ebay has a shutter release advertised as working with a nikon fe
and i want to use it with my hasselblad

wondering if it will screw into my hasselblad

Well a quick google for mir nikon fe takes you to the mir.com site for nikons and the 9 part section shows a nice pic of the top of the camera, and it uses a standard tapered thread cable release.

maybe ask in the medium format forum?

You'll be better off goin to a brick & mortar store to get a decent cable release.
Although the Hasselblad takes a screw in cable release with the standard threads, I have at least one cable release that will not work on my 500C/M.

The issue lies in the inner metal 'tip" that protrudes from the cable and goes into the shutter button on the 500 c/m body.
Some don't go deep enough (haha, dont go there guys).

In other words, you push the plunger with your thumb but the metal tip at the body side wont trip the inner shutter release linkage.

In another thread you were asking about a long pneumatic release. Is it a remote release that you are seeking?

Nikon's AR-3 cable shutter release works fine in a 'Blad, and the stroke is long enough. The AR-2 has the older external thread for SM Leicas and Nikon F and F2.

Don't bother buying a cheap cable shutter release. Stay away from "Release for Nikon/Pentax/...".

yes, the pneumatic ones apparently don't work well. I'm looking for a remote timer shutter release to screw into my hasselblad shutter release socket

I found one on ebay that said it was used on a nikon fe 35mm camera

OK, let's define some terms.

You are looking for some way to trigger your Hasselblad and you want to be in the photograph yourself.

You first looked at the pneumatic bulb releases with long tubes, but you are concerned that they will not supply enough force.

Now you are looking at accessory self-timers - mechanical ones that screw into the camera's shutter release.

I think you will find that the compatibility of anything you try will depend on:

1) the shape and size of the unit (if it is too big the lens may interfere);
2) how long the plunger "throw" is; and
3) how much force is exerted by the plunger.

The threads themselves in the camera's shutter release are standardised. The depth of the throw and the force required varies slightly between models of cameras.

Unfortunately, with the exception of the threads, there probably aren't any "standards" out there in respect of the long releases or accessory self-timers. So we would be unlikely to be able to point to one particular model and say "this one will work".

I have a mechanical accessory self timer that is probably at least 40 years old. It is somewhat adjustable, but I find it easy to use with a couple of cameras, and incompatible with others. I don't have a Hasselblad to try it with.

I haven't seen one of these in a store for a long time. If I were to look for one in a store in our area, I would try Leo's Cameras in Vancover.

I wouldn't necessarily give up on the pneumatic bulbs yet - you'll need to find a place though that will yet you try one.

Air release? None better than a DeGroff. Plenty of grunt. I use 1/4"ID vinyl tubing and a blood pressure bulb so you I can lock the shutter open.
Since the plunger isn't released until the valve is opened, no problem with long exposures with Mr. Hasselblad.
DeGroff hasn't been made for years, so it's off to eb for you.

FWIW, the bulb was $5, tubing ~$1.50 and DeGroff valve about $40.
I use about 4' of tubing but longer should be no problem.

After putzing around used, cheap, crappy releases, I wised-up and got a Nikon AR-3. Works with all my cameras that take a tapered, screw-in tipped release--both 35mm and MF.

DeGroff - even its name sounds like its on steroids

As shown in the picture below, there were apparently three different types - all others, Rollei and Leica (and the Nikon F and F2). The depth of the plunger is adjustable and it appears to work on all my cameras that have the screw-in shutter.



The picture below is on my K1000 which doesn't have a self timer.


These have come to me bundled in with my camera purchases.
