Any thoughts?

It's been a while…

Anyone spent any time at Dight's Falls in Collingwood? Seems a bit of a nice combination of water, rocks and man-made structures.

What about a night shoot somewhere industrial?

Hmmm. :munch:
Seems about the right time to bring this up with the days getting longer and Spring being in the air (or I wouldn't be doing somersaults and handstands on the faux lawn out back).

Don't know Dight's falls but I'll be guided, an industrial site does interest me somewhat.

Not much raw industrial in Richmond at the moment - the last couple of areas are now active building sites. But I think Dight's falls is going again.

Plenty of industrial sites, new and old, down here in Geelong...

Any with access? (Either legal or not so?)

All around the loading docks are fairly open, and a lot of great stuff right on the side of the road along the bay. Then there's the 'old' stuff, cement works which can be 'ahem' accessed from the back, or the paper mill down by the river... Wyno took me on some great tours before he left!

I am heading out to Noojee/Toorongo River this Saturday; this is the first of several sorties I've been wanting to take since early April, but couldn't because of illness. It will be wet and cold and thrilling!

Aren't the Geelong Port / docks area under a security blanket? I've wanted to photograph that gritty and grimy Wallace & Gromit-like contraption at the old International Harvester works at Corio. Access I think is via St Georges Road, then a short or a long walk. I didn't see any warnings re security there, so...?

I was up that way a couple months back for work, I had two jobs in Yallourn North and Buln Buln, so I took the 'shortcut' between the two. Stopped for a breather at the Noojee bridge with my Grandmothers Ensign. Just printed some great pics of the bridge the other day.

Hmmm, well I've got a shoot this morning, then not much on for the rest of the day, so I might go for a little explore...

Your grandmother's Ensign? I thought you were getting around on a motorbike? Goodness, an Ensign must be in great nick to get you out that way and back without fault. Did you restore it?

...haw haw haw...

It was the first thing she bought when she got her first ever paycheck (after popping out a few kids, as was the way in the day). I was surprised how clear the pictures were, not 'Nikon crisp', but a lot better than I was expecting... It may find itself as a very useful travel 6x9

Oh, last darkroom session I printed out a few pics I took with the XA on our hike down around Forest. Got a good pic of Brutus in action, when I make a good print I'll pass it on to you

What!? You have been spying on Dear Leader, 'Brutus'?
And just when were we down in Forrest? Good God, that must have been many, many moons ago now...
Be it noted that the cheerful town of Forrest now has a fully-fledged Brewery which I know from contacts draws a ripping crowd on Fridays and Saturdays.

EDIT: Speaking with Bernie Jordan of Geelong Bushwalking Club (Senior Leader) earlier in the week; he'd taken a group down to Allambee Beek Falls (a few APUG members have been down there e.g. Wyno, SMBooth, moi, SteveR...), but via the mysterious Staircase Falls, track which branches off the main through track shortly after entering the forest, and heads east, down to the falls then crosses the river and picks up the last 200m to AB Falls. The noble man re-set flagging tapes from Staircase to Allambee Beek and exited via the well-trod (amend that: "bloody awful") Curtis Track, describing it most tactfully as an "abysmal quagmire" — a 50 metre stretch of sticky clay mud that precipitated an anxious chorus of "are we nearly there yet!?". I have never been to Staircase Falls but probably have an early Surveyor's pic of it from the 1980s somewhere.

It certainly was... it was before Alexander was born, and Laura wouldn't have been too pregnant, because I almost considered taking her back that way not long after, so easily two years ago (WOW!), give or take a couple months. Most of the XA pics from down in the falls particularly the second set we went to, are a touch soft from the low, low light under those giant tree ferns, but reasonable as a 5x7, and still enjoyable as 8x10's

If Boots was on that walk with his Wista, and that's him with the steely pose and glum face in the photo I have in Picasa, it is dated June 2009. Therefore, it is 3 years. By the Lord Harry, where did those years go??

I'll exercise Olly the XA down by the Toorongo riverside, where the falls are further up, in and out of dark little nooks and generally make good use of the last few frames on the roll. Then it is a roll of B&W for a cheerful change.

Big Boots was there, Wist in hand, along with his digi-toting, snake loving mate. Pete was there too... ummm, who else... Couldn't have been '09 though (the one I'm thinking of), I know I was in Geelong at the time and I only moved here early-mid 2010.

Then you are reflecting on Yannathan Falls, not AB Falls. Not sure Peter Sanderson was on that one, but I have a record of him being at AB Falls. Tom was there at Yannathan with Boots (who recorded a very favourable image in 6x9 or 12 on a home-spun pinhole), you were there hissing about the rain. I was there trying to keep my balance as you wrangled your camera. So there. My memory is the better of the two. Now what day is the next meeting, or whatever the OP subject was?

I don't recall any hissing about rain!

...original subject? There was an original subject? I though this was the early-onset Alzheimer's thread...

So, reminiscing aside, are we any closer to agreeing to meet and, if so, a date and location?
