Given that everybody has an iPhone and seems willing to submit their still pics or videos to the News agencies, Facebook etc then I seriously wonder how Magnum competes for news on the spot and as it happens
That leaves the longer documentary style of articles and reports where extra time, knowledge and composition skills are required where the world with an iPhone isn't a competitor . Maybe that Magnum's territory now ?
I collaborate with Larry Towell Magnum photographer quite a lot lately, he still takes on assignments and yes they are longer documentary style of work , in fact printing a show
with his new work now. He has mentioned that the work is not as frequent as the good old days and as well is concerned with AI. I am going to spend some time at his home this summer going over
the Museum Show we have been printing the last two years as well showing him test prints of his new work.
For these paticular type of photographers its a life long passion and no matter what is going on they still find ways of telling stories with their cameras.
