Medium Format
Hi there folks. I've just started playing around a bit with photography. After a lot of time spent scouring the net (and reading APUG posts!), I decided to go the medium format route with a Yashica Mat 124G...certainly one of the cheaper ways to get into the hobby. I've only put a few rolls through it thus far, but I can tell this is going to be a lifelong interest...these big negs hold so much more mystique than any digital photo I've ever taken, and the process of working with a full manual camera really forces you to think things through before taking the shot. Absolutely Zen.

Thankfully, I've got a nice local lab to use until I am set up to do that end of things myself, and a wonderful community of APUG'ers who seem to have the answer to any question I might come upon!

Hopefully I'll run into some of you along the way...

Thanks!

Good Afternoon, Brian,

Welcome! A TLR is not a bad way to get started. Hope you can quickly get started with your own film processing.

welcome from norcal!

this is a great place with a wealth of knowledge. not to mention friendly folks. i also wanted to wish you luck.. it all starts with a simple camera and simple processes. then comes the darkroom. then comes the other formats.

welcome!

Welcome Brian-you'll find all the info you'll ever need right here. We are ready to help out ayone interested in Analog photography.
Best, Peter

Actually Zen is about not thinking at all (so a compact camera is better for this analogy) but I get what you mean.

Enjoy yourself!
That's all what film is about!

tourist: those replacement yashica coverings are pretty wild! the loud colors aren't really my style, but if I ever need to replace what I've got, I certainly know where to go.

arigram: correct. bad analogy...but you get the picture.

thanks, all, for the warm welcome.

Welcome Brian from Hawaii. I used to have a Yashica Mat 124G; I really loved that camera. I probably should look for a one on eBay ....

Brian,
Welcome from Huntington Beach. Let me know when you're in the area and we'll talk shop. Enjoy the TLRS, they're fun cameras.
Chris

Ah, some locals. I'm in Upland, not too far from either of you. Leaving late tonight for a short trip to Sacramento...the Mat's already in the bag.
