Newb w/ a question about my new back on 500c

Hi,

Seems like a great site and forum. Had taught myself on 35mm two years ago, did a year program in NY learning on digital and post processing and there started shooting on a Hasselblad and made it the focus of my personal projects. Now that the program is done I went out and bought my own darling!

Quick question since I like to find and know every detail about my gear but couldn't figure this out (and Adorama people are so gruff and help little).

What is the deal with this little metal spring thing on the back?

That is quite an OLD back -- maybe 1960's era -- it is a film type reminder thing where you put a torn off bit of the film box or a home-made note so you know what film you have loaded.
