New55 COLOR Kickstarter!

I have looked and searched but I couldn't find a topic about this. So here it is! New55 has created a new Kickstarter campaign for New55 Color single sheet peel apart film. This will be for 4x5 camera's. However if this is succesful they will start researching the possibilities for pack film as well. The main goals are threefold:

Goals of this Project
1. First and foremost, the goal is to create a new Color 4x5 instant film that produces a big, beautiful, peelapart print! This is the object of most of the rewards for supporting the project. If this is successful, the film will produce a vivid, high-resolution color photograph using the easily-obtained Polaroid 545 backs. These fit on millions of cameras.

2. We want to advance development of Pack Films as soon as possible. Even though pack type films are not rewards here, your support will help develop the roll goods needed for that important next step. And we will begin the exploration of a new packfilm capability right away, as soon as this Kickstarter is successful. We will report on it regularly as you might expect, and ask for your advice and input as we try different things.

3. This is most exciting: It may be possible to produce a true Color positive-negative material. Never before has this been done except by a few who reclaimed "Fujinegs". An instant color negative is a new idea and something never before offered in the history of analog photography. In addition to being used for instant camera formats, this material could potentially be made into 120 rollfilms, 35mm and used in both instant AND non-instant cameras! This could be an important outcome from your support of this campaign, though it is not a reward here.

Just check out goal nr. 3: The posibility of a color version of the New55 P/N film. Bypassing developing 4x5 color negatives altogether. Let's make this happen (again)!

I think it was briefly mentioned in the discontinuation of Fuji colour peel apart thread, that the possibility of a New55 colour kickstarter is in the works.

I thought so but the Kickstarter is running now for 2 weeks and so far they have nearly $70,000.-- in pledges. Not quite there so hence my topic here! I now the last time response from the Apug-community was great so I hope this time it will be great again

It deserves its own thread. It's a worthy effort -- certainly an ambitious one. I must pledge soon!

Their first kickstarter started of slowly, and the last week it really picked up. Hopefully the same will happen this time.

I'm in. They worked miracles to deliver black and white New55 film, I hope they stay in business and keep innovating with instant film.

Would be nice to see it succeed but not holding my breath, and will continue using Fp100c (which already produces a color negative) in the meantime...

Well you should keep using FP100c but the support is needed to create the new film or it will never happen propably.

One more week to gather the remaining 310.000 dollars. It seem people are not to keen on 4x5 colorfilm or a possible future for packfilm...too bad. :-(

There is a problem with your sentence: FP100c is gone.
Fuji doesn't make it any more.

True, but it's still available, and a better product.

I would apply but normaly stick to Black & White myself, event on my digital camera. Great product nonetheless and wish them good luck.

Lack of funding seems to indicate lack of interest though.

That is way they do this Kickstarter. If there is no funding then there is no point in making it. And it will also show why Fuji rightly so decided to kill off packfilm.

While on the subject, sometime ago I got hold of a Linhof Technika that never had the chance to use. Anyone tested the New55 PN 4x5 Black and White film with this kind of camera or similar?

It needs more capital than is available or realistic via kickstarter, and it needs real dedication and vision to succeed, which has so far been rather lacking, at least in the vision/capital department.

Fp100c will be viable until at least 2020-2022 IMNSHO based on current performance vs expiration dates. E.g., 2010 exp stuff is still plenty fine.

Speaking of which, at least the 2009 real polaroid 55 is still fine too, (and, amazingly, cheaper than new55 even on ebay!) so if you want to get a taste of how good that really is/was, now is the time.

Of course it needs more capital than the kickstarter will raise. But the kickstarter will be a good measure of the demand. If the demand is there then Doc Kaps and David Bohnett can maybe step in and do their magic to help make this happen. But if the market can't be bother to raise $400.000,00 then there is no point making investments for something that will not be sold.

kickstarter is not a good judge of demand overall, it's a judge of internet-centric people who are willing to risk $ throwing it away at something that may or may not happen. Many people simply won't or don't consider ever "investing" in anything over kickstarter, nor are even aware of it's existence, but still may be viable users of whatever project/material is being promoted there.

Man, we just suck. We have an oppurtunity as an analog community to add more analog materials to our market and instead we go off tangent debating kickstarter marketing with snide comments about internet-centric people throwing away money when we could just move forward and help make projects like this successful.

It was a very ambitious target. Hopefully they weren't expecting to raise nearly half a million dollars from enthusiasts alone. They need some deep-pocketed investors.

I'm in. Too little, too late maybe.

Doesn't seem too ambitious considering that they raised nearly half a million dollars from enthusiasts with the original New55 kickstarter.

Alas this one didn't make it (I was a backer) but I do hope they will keep plugging away. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the New55 team, I think most people would have given up long ago.
