New York - Which galleries?

Next week, I will be travelling to the US, visiting a dear friend of mine. He lives in NJ and we will certainly make several day trips to New York. Now I would like to visit some galleries/exhibitions and see some great photographs "in person". Are there some places you can recommend?

And, just in case I run out of film (which is unlikely to happen because I got a large freestyle order sent directly to him beforehand - LOL), where can I get good film (b&w medium format, preferably Neopan Acros or TriX)?

There is the Edward Weston exhibit at The Hecksher Museum Of Art.
That's on Long Island, and easy to get there by the Long Island Railroad.

There are a number of interesting galleries in the Chelsea area, around 23rd to 25th street or so, way over on the westside. I'd also say a trip to NYC would not be complete without going to a museum or two, and the Museum of Modern Art has an excellent photography department. http://www.moma.org/

Another great resource is a publication called Photograph, and can generally be found for free at just about any gallery. They list just about every photography show in the US, with a large NYC section, and the listings can also be found online so you can plan what to see before. http://www.photographmag.com/

I'll put in another vote for Throckmorton, and also Bonni Benrubi, who actually cares about showing analog photography. They're within a block or two of each other. B&H is great for buying supplies, but do check out Lens & Repro if you want to see a little camera museum along with piles and piles of really cool camera gear. They have a display case that fills the better part of a wall full of rare and unique cameras including special edition Rolleis, Leicas and Hasselblads. They also have tons of original prints on the walls from many of the great photographers of the 20th century.
