Has anyone seen an actual box of the new Yashica color negative film and noticed the country of manufacture on the box? No product photos online I've seen show that side of the box. Just curious of the country, as that would pretty much identify the manufacturer. Thanks!

I did not know of this new use of Yashica name. I love my classic Yashica cameras.

The Yashica 400 rolls I can see above have the ratchet spool I associate with single-use cameras, but I suspect they used whatever cassettes were available with their printed labels for the promo shot above. The ones in the image of the MF1 don't have that -- again, likely they only have the labels at this time.

I'm happy to see Yashica actually planning to reintroduce older cameras and their own name on film, though I'm not sure I like the idea of making a 35mm TLR and marking it with the same model number as a long-running and well-liked 127 4x4. I also suspect that Y44 is going to cost a mint when it comes out. I'd be interested in whether it'll be a conversion that can still take 127, though...

So does the film actually exist as of now? Who has been commissioned to make it? Assuming it really exists, is it an existing film or a brand new one made to Yashica's specs

Where is Henning to give us the low-down on what the real situation is before we are all dragged into the equivalent of Conan Doyle's Grimpen Mire. The Game's afoot, Watson! We need Henning to don his deerstalker hat, get out his magnifying glass and solve this one :D

Then there is the Yashica cameras and two of the three look to require quite a set-up to make them. Who will make them and where?

Exciting times ahead

I saw one seller on Ebay already offering the Yashica film, there may be more. It's only available in 24 exp. as far as I can tell. My guess is it's just rebranded 'something', but what that something is is the question.

Rebranded would seem to be favourite in my book Are there not any retail sellers and if there are what price is being charged? If it is rebranded then this suggests economy in terms of outlay needed to "produce " it but it then begs a very large question of the resources that needs to be committed for camera production

My nostrils detect a strong smell of snake oil

We still have no real news here. That announcement was first made over a year ago.
On the red / magenta film cassettes you see "Limited Edition". That realistically means it will be leftover old warehouse stock, maybe / likely even expired.

If the film in the blue design is fresh film, it will be easy to identify by using it and make direct comparison tests to the films established on the market.

Best regards,
Henning

Whatever it is, it is not inexpensive and far from a bargain. One seller on Ebay has the 'regular' Yashica 400 2x24 exp. rolls for $22.00 and the 'Golden 80s' 400 2x24 exp. rolls for $25.50 (American). Granted, that includes shipping, but two or more Kodak or Fuji 36 exp. rolls can be had for that price.

I remember something about this a year or so ago.

I also remember this photo from around the same time. Not a good use of Photoshop.

What was it that was done in Photoshop? Any chance that the original film cassette was a hoax then but just one that for whatever reason preceded the real thing? I use the phrase "the real thing" because there is at least one report of a seller having stock of this new Yashica film

Perhaps using Photoshop was a forgivable "white lie" as the real thing was just around the corner?

If you look under the lip of the slot where the film comes out of the cassette there should be a number, possibly 6 to 8 digits long. All manufacturers use this to identify the film when it is 'badge engineered' The last time I used it was to show that the Agfa C41 film that disappeared around 3 or so years ago was actually made by Fuji and is still marketed by them as their basic 200ISO colour neg film. Get the number and post it here and I am sure someone will compare it with one they have an come up with an answer.

Yashica's web shop is sold out so it was probably NOS or a brief exercise in rebranding some available film. If they want to put their name to film going forward in the future it must be reasonably competitively priced. I'm not surprised the ebay sellers are expensive....they want to make a profit on whatever they paid for the stuff.
