New Wide Angle

I went to KEH's website looking around and found an EX+ Nikkor 24mm f2.8 D lens with caps and hood...couldn't pass it up. I had been periodically looking for a good wide angle for the F,F2 cameras and one that would work as a 35mm lens for the D7000. This one fits the bill nicely. Not too shabby for $300. I'll give it a test drive when it gets here with both film and the DSLR.

Test it. If it's not ultra sharp send it back. A new one with usa warranty from B&H is only $80 more.

It's a really nice lens. I used to own that. Enjoy.

I bought one when the pacific subduction zone was passing by Las Vegas... (mid 80s)
Its a lens I've always loved. Razor sharp, keeps lines straight. Its just a joy. 'Hope yours treats you the same. 'Not certain its the exact model you describe - mine doesn't have the 'D'.

I don't have a dslr so I'm not too knowledgeable in this area, but will a D lens cover full frame?

Unless it's a DX lens, yes. That's why I bought the 24mm f2.8 AF-D lens. It works on them all.

Congratulations on your purchase David. One of the sharpest wides is the 28mm f2.8 ais manual focus. Very low distortion too. Better than the Af variant so I use this on all my Nikons.

There is nothing wrong with the focus on the AF lenses, which can be also manually focused. AF will find the focus more accurately and more often than a manual lens except when there is something closer like leaves, grass or glass and then you have to select the focus point. Not a big deal.

Thanks, I wanted the 24mm as I've had the 28mm before but never used it that much-I did use the 20mm I had some years back and decided the 24mm would fit in between those and also give me a 35mm lens on the D7000 since it's a DX camera.

I can't believe that lens just got here today. Talk about fast!! I put it through a quick test with the D-word camera and things look good. I need to put it on the F2A and some HP-5 or FP-4 to see how it really shines. The lens looks like it was just taken out of the box so when KEH says EX+ you can bet it is...that, and then some.

Great! For wide angles, I have a 28 and 20 for my nikon gear, and a 24 for my Canaon FD kit. I like the 24 field of view! It's airier than the 28 but not so obviously wide angle like the 20. Enjoy!

After playing around with it for a while I think I'm going to like this lens. I sort of wish I had my old 20 back as well. Got some great photos with that lens.

What happened to the 20?

One thing I've learned over the years: never sell a lens (unless it's to buy another).

I've got both 2.8 and 3.5 Nikkor 28's and both 2.8 and 3.5 Nikkor 20's.

Best I recall, I traded the 20 for a 105 f2.5. I don't think I've sole/traded a lens since then. I still have the old Vivitar Series I 90 f2.5 I bought back around 1980.
