Okay Hello everyone,
So I have a new FD lens on my canon T90 and I recently bought an old FD automatic 28 mm Vivitar lens for this camera not knowing there was a difference. Is there any converter I can purchase to attach this to my canon T90? I'm still only like 70% sure it doesnt fit but I don't want to damage my camera by trying to put it on. Please let me knowwww

Welcome !

The lens you got will work fine at your camera.

FD is FD concerning connectivity (camera/lens communication).

The only difference is handling at attachin and at taking off, and the respective different mechanics. Thus has pros and cons. If your most concern is handling, then go for what you like better. New or old.

But if you choose the new mechanism, be aware the new style mount is only applied at Canon lenses. The old style you find both at Canon lenses and at FD.mount lenses of other manufacturers.
At the old style all Canon FD lenses have the breechlock ring at attaching the lens close a little bit automatically. Which is benefitial if one knows how to attach the lens properly, but can be annoying if not. FD lenses by other manufacturers typically lack this feature, as well as a self locking feature at the automatic-diaphragm actuator, a feature that in rare cases can be benefitial.

I myself am a FD guy and basically choose my lenses on features related to optics, not by the mount.

You are an angel:smile: I really wasn't sure and the links I found online were a bit confusing and didn't say much. Thank you for the clarification:smile:)

Thank you for the nice words! Fellows here think differently of me....

For unknown reasons Canon in their camera manuals typically only describe the mounting of the lens for the FD mount version current then. Only few manuals describe handling of both versions of the FD mount, and I got no link to such manual in English at hand.

Here an English manual that describes handling of the old style mount:

https://www.cameramanuals.org/canon_pdf/canon_at-1.pdf

see page 13, and 53-56

Something else:
The T90 is a camera at which reading the manual is absolutely necessary, even better a respective handbook.
