Alright so I just got some Pyrocat HD and am really excited. Tomorrow I plan on developing a roll of efke 50 shot half the roll with flash and half the roll with normal daylight in 120. Later I plan on developing some sheet HP5 shot at 200 and intended for pt/pd printing. Th efke 50 will probably scanned then made into digital negatives and also printing pt/pd. So anybody no any good starting times.

I haven't found any times for efke 50. And I've seen various times for HP5 but I thought i'd ask here, I'll be proceesing the HP5 in a tray (the efke in a tank).

Sorry about the two questions in one.

thanks,
John

For the Efke 50, try 16 minutes with semi-stand agitation at 21C with the 1 + 1 + 100 dilution of Pyrocat. Presoak in 21C water for 2 to 5 minutes.

I have no experience - Yet - with HP5 in Pyrocat.

I'd give the HP5 about 9-10 mins @ 1:1:100, @75F for your Pt/Pd. I'm basing that off my FP4+ times/temps, which I have worked out to 11-12 mins @ 1:1:100 @75F.

Scott;
Is that for Jobo processing?
My Jobo FP 4+ process is N = 10:00, 2+2:100 at 68-70 degrees (3 Min pre soak).

How would you adjust that process to FP 5?

My times are for Jobo processing. The coolest I can get my water out of the tap in the summer is 75F, and the coolest I can keep it with the Jobo heater in the winter is also 75f. I do my process as follows: 3 min pre-wet, dev, 1 min water-stop fill and flush, and then a 5-8 min fix, depending on how old/how many times I've used that same batch of fixer. I usually do 4-6 batches of film with the fixer before I toss it. My N time is 12 mins, but I find that I have to vary it based on temperature (the last time I ran film, the coolest water I could get from the tap was closer to 80F, and I had just emptied my ice maker in my fridge so I had no ice to cool it with).

HP5 is similar in formulation to FP4, so I'd just knock it back about 20-25% on time, since it is two stops faster, nominally, to keep the contrast under control.

Thanks I tried the HP5 using tray processing 1:1:100 at 75 for 10 minutes. It printed quite nicely in pt/pd. Although, I think I overexposed the highlights at the exposure time.
I'll let you know how the efke goes.
Thanks,
John
