Just got a beautiful Topcon 35-S. Might have overpaid a bit but it was overhauled, new seals, etc.

It feels lighter and smaller than my Konica IIIM. The Konica has a brighter viewfinder although the Topcon’s focusing patch is a bit more distinct I think. The shutter is incredibly quiet but cocking it is actually kind of startlingly loud. It is cocked on the second stroke of the film advance lever. The sound reminds me of a mirror slap actually. Does anyone have any idea what is making the sound? It’s a Seikosha-MX shutter, do they all sound like that? I; e never noticed any shutter making a noise when being cocked before.

I had one until last year, so my memory is not the freshest. I think all what you described are normal for that model. The second stroke that cocks the shutter is a bit loud. The Topcor lens is the main attraction: high quality stuff. Enjoy!

I was wondering if you knew what was actually making the sound. Glad to know that it is normal. Still, kind of weird.
