Hey Guys and Gals,

My Name is Pedro, I am new to APUG forum.
I live in Perth, and am an avid photography enthusiast, and have been for some time.
I recently started to shoot with my first digital camera, however have many film cameras and use them just as regularly.
I shoot at the moment entirely 35mm, mostly with rangerfinder or rangefinder style cameras, but am interested in playing around with other things, I have before shot medium format also.

I would be really interested in meeting some like minded people, who are interested in shooting regularly. Being that I am also trying to piece together my own darkroom, I would like to meet anyone who could offer me advice, or perhaps has a space to rent that would be suitable for such an endeavour. I am in the process of setting up a website to display some of my work, and i will post it up when i have it ready.

I look forward to meeting you all soon.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Pedro, welcome to APUG from another Melbournian. I was in Perth six or seven months ago. You've got some gorgeous coastlines on that side of the continent (even if you meant you're in Perth, Scotland  ). Quite a bit of the cameras and darkroom gear I see on eBay located in Australia seem to be selling from Perth, so hopefully that means there's someone near you who's knowledgeable about working in a darkroom and can help you out with gear. As far as advice and assistance goes, you've most definitely come to the right place! People here are amazing and incredibly generous and there is already a mountain of information to be had with a simple search of the forums. If no one's asked your particular question before, I'm sure the APUG community won't have any hesitation in helping.

Thanks guys, Yes i am currently living in Perth WA, thats why I thought I'd post in the Aussie? forum, Glorious sunny Perth. Yes I love our coast line here, and love taking shots at the beach.

Molli, I bought a lot of stuff already, and I am quite ready to find a space. I am currently house sitting, and between homes so i have no good place of my own.
Thats why i was hoping if i reached out in a forum such as this one, i may find someone who is like minded who may want to do the same, or better yet, may already have a darkroom and is in need of some extra funding or gear. I am pretty generous with my equipment and don't mind at all if other people with respect for property would like to borrow and use my stuff. I had access to a pretty good setup growing up as my sister had a home darkroom.

What would be cool would be a country wide darkroom. One in every major city, funded by people such as ourselves, pay a small membership and have access to gear that your membership helps buy/maintain. I image many people are in a similar situation as myself and would love a darkroom in their home, but either don't have the space, the gear or the funds to keep one.

Maybe it would be a logistical nightmare, maybe not. Just spit balling here after a few drinks none the less.
Thanks so much for the welcome guys. I hope to be involved in this site and its community activities as much as life will allow.

'morning Pedro,

I'm all too familiar with the "between homes" scenario! For the first couple of years, I just used my laundry with the windows blacked out with garbage bags. I've just recently re-located everything to a spare room. No plumbing in there, unfortunately, but it's easy enough to keep prints in a holding tray until the end of the session. This is being done in a rental property so it can definitely be done without owning your own home or having something entirely dedicated as a darkroom.

Not sure if that helps you or not.... just wanting to let you know that it's not impossible!

Morning - Yes this I have thought about, laundry or bathroom perhaps, I am impressed though, you definitely wouldn't want a chemical spill on the floor of a rental property, Be super careful now. But i do hear for sure what you are saying. Nothing is impossible I guess.

My partner and i are looking at places now, and I am hoping to find one with an outhouse laundry or something like that, which would solve my problems, We will see what happens, but at the moment, i am hoarding rolls of exposed film, and loading canisters, under the cover of darkness.

Hello Fotch and thank you for your welcome and again to you all.

Wow great thanks again.

Komla are you in perth? I will have to get involved in fpop too!

I suppose i should explain a bit about what i do, I am not a pro, but always have a camera with me. I have been shooting film for years, and recently started shooting with a mirror less fuji digital, also I just started messing around with post processing with lightroom.

All this stuff is fun, quick and easy, but like the rest of you, I am still very active with my 35mm and as i said want to get back into the darkroom myself. I love the organic manipulative feeling of processing and printing manually. I have recently been looking at adding a medium format setup to my working systems, but not sure what to go for at this moment.

A lot of the stuff I shoot is family oriented, portrait and natural or composite landscape. A huge chunk of my work is street photography sort of stuff.

Thanks all, very nice to be included
Pedro
