New TMax in Pyrocat

Hi All,

I usually shoot Ilford and Fuji, but went shopping last week and was surprised to find my local retailer had two 4x5 boxes of the new Tmax 400 priced at about $25.00 a box. I think it was mislabeled, but I grabbed them.

I was looking for processing information, and came across Kodaks recommended information, but that’s not really what I am looking for. View Camera has still not updated the pdf info yet, so I can't look at that.

I was wondering if anybody had any information regarding processing it in Jobo Expert drum in Pyrocat 1:1:100. And basic starting times and EIs would be greatly appreciated.

$25 - a score, I just paid $73 (CDN, including taxes) for a single box of 4x5 at my local source.

I too am looking for good starting information in Pyrocat-HD in a Jobo drum I'll be watching this thread.

You sure its' the "new" formulation? The reason I ask is I've only seen it at Freestyle and B&H in 50 sheet boxes @ about a US buck a sheet. The older emulsion sells in 25 sheet boxes.

At the 1:1:50 dilution that I use 15 minutes would turn my negatives into welder's goggles. And that's the old emulsion. The new stuff is even hotter. I give mine about 10.5 minutes.

I agree. Even 10.5 minutes in Jobo at 70F with the 2:2:100 dilution seems a tad long to me for printing silver.

I do mine in trays and after the first minute I only agitate once every 30 seconds. Unless memory serves me ill I got that as a starting time from you. It has always worked very well for me, albeit for Canadian Grade 2 Azo which is really soft paper. Thanks for both your useful advice and Pyrocat HD.

I'm using homebrewed MC in glycol, 1+1+100. It could be the water, it's filtered, not distilled, and I haven't tested the PH. I rate the film at 320, 15 minutes at 70 Degrees is my normal time with the new emulsion and the negatives are just fine for enlarging at grade 2 1/2-3 on Ilford VC paper..Evan Clarke

Thank you everybody for the helpful advice, it gives me the a good starting point.

The film is without question the new stuff, the box matches the pictures that I saw the the LF forum. The product codes check out as well, I emailed Kodak about it to confirm. For that price I had to give it a try. I went back yesterday to picked something else up and price went up to $65.00 a box, so I think I just got very very lucky.
