The Photographic Materials Group of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works is proud to announce advance sales of

This volume presents the he results of a four-year inter-institutional, interdisciplinary research initiative, led by the National Gallery of Art and contains contributions by 47 leading photograph conservators, scientists, and historians.

I'm curious why with a zillion members here and alt photography being so popular no one is snapping up this book
it will be the same OLD story in 2 years; Where can I get a copy and why isn't it available? Or other scenerio: why is it $300 on ebay?
I have several Platinum reference books that are worth way more than when I bought them; WHY? because they are out of print!!

The "Magnum Opus Platinum" is published at last! The maintenance of image quality meant some reprinting, I understand, hence the delay. But I don't think you'll be disappointed. There is no other specialist book to compare with it.

I live in the UK. The cost of mailing the book to me is over U$A 200 (total cost over 300 US dollars). I am sure that the book could be sent by surface mail, and that would reduce the cost, but the only options on the site seem to be air mail. To pay four times the cost of the book seems a bit much.

The Shipping page on the NGA website indicates that the shipping and handling charge should be $48.95. Something is strange - I would suggest contacting them directly to enquire.

Many thanks to all that answered. I have contacted the publishers, but they have not answered yet (sigh...).

Just in case someone else is interested, I received an answer from the publishers:
"We have asked our fulfillment company to add the option to ship via USPS to their checkout options. We are not sure of the timeframe, but if it is quite long, then we will begin shipping international orders ourselves.
We will get back to you within a week or so, once we get a sense of their plans."

This problem has been resolved by the publishers. Now one can ask the book to be sent to Europe for a price that only doubles the cost (well, yes, still not cheap, but it is a heavy book...)

I went in to the NGA bookshop and bought my copy directly. Saved on the shipping - it's a big heavy book. Hopefully I'll get a chance to crack it open this weekend and start reading.
