I recently received my copy of Ted Orland's new book "View from the studio door"

I was turned on to this writer by Les Mclean when Les suggested I read the book Art & Fear which I think many have spoken about here on APUG. I am merely two chapters into the book but have realized that this book will be not unlike Art & Fear in that its going to be worth reading and rereading. So far its quite good I imagine if I continue to read it like I have the last few days should be finished fairly quick and will post my thoughts on its entirety if any are interested.
Thus far it seems more geared towards the somewhat philosophical aspects of art, artmaking, and the existance of an artist in society (something I and always interested in.

Write to Ted directly and buy from Ted directly. He doesn't have to split the revenue with those on line or brick and mortar stores.

You also get a signed copy that way.

Will do so, Joe. Do you have an email address or website for him? (If it's an email please PM or email it to me so it won't get picked up by trolling bots)

I know Ted personally, and he is a great guy and gifted teacher, in addition to being a wonderful photographer. I will be buying a copy from him directly as well. I've lost count how many times I've read Art and Fear. Another book of his you may be able to find on the cheap, is an early book called "Scenes of Wonder & Curiosity: The Photographs & Writings of Ted Orland". In that book, among many wonderful images ane writings, is the most amazing portrait of Sally Mann. Joe Bob says check it out twice!

Last week on my dinning room table where to stacks of books 15 copies of Art and Fear and 15 copies of View from ... This week the stacks are shorter as a matter of fact my last copy of Art and Fear is goin to school for a friend and the last 5 copies of View are spoken for.

Do youself a favor and buy a few copies. Ted is an old friend from 1974 and the AA workshops. His books have always given me that kick in the 'B__'. and when I see Ted he does it in person.

Buy Books!!!!!! Lots of them

Art & Fear is the most important book without images in my photography/art library. It's a real steal too and I've bought several copies over the years for friends who have occasionally lost their muse. I have another one on order now for a writer friend and have ordered a copy of View From The Studio Door for myself.
