"How soon will the camera be for sale? If everything goes fine, around April 2014. The prototype is nearly feature complete, with beta testing starting these days. Ten preorders will be the first step towards the final product. They will allow Logmar to manufacture the moulds and tools for all the camera parts that currently only exist as 3D-printed prototypes. Then, volume production may begin. The introductory price for preordering customers will most probably be between 2,000 and 2,500 Euro ($2,700-$3,400). After an investment of more than 300,000 Danish Crowns ($55,000), more than one hundred manually assembled parts per camera and four years of continuous unpaid labor, that’s a very fair offer. As a special treat, the first brave ten buyers may, if they wish, choose blue or red instead of black for the color for the anodized aluminum camera body."

One would have to see the whole frame but the sides are cut off a bit. If only one casette was used I'd say the light comes happened at the processing stage or it was flare or reflections at the gate. If it was more than one casette then both sources are still valid but a third can be added the camera was not closed correctly.

A light leak at the cassette or during processing would have exposed the film edge at whole lenght. We only see it around the center of the left edge. Even being masked in postprocessing it indicates uneven exposure lengthwise.

Not necessarily a flash of light can expose part of the film and not the whole reel. I still believe that it could be caused by reflections in the gate and these are dependant on the location of the lightsource. A C-mount lens should cover the film area without vignetting or any other problems. Can't explain the uneven devlopment since I doubt they used reels to develop the film.

Visualproducts sells a C mount to PL-Adapter to use PL-Lenses on C-mounts oh the possibilities.

It's the light coming through the perforation during scanning. Also, the gate in this camera has been expanded horizontally so that it comes quite close to perforation. The scanner used is sprocketless, so the light can shine through the perforations.

Do I understand you correctly the gate is wider than standard Super 8?

It has an aspect-ratio of 1.6 , which is called Super-Duper-8 by some.
Super-8 is 1.35 .

Actually at this video, it is 1.5 (smaller scanner frame?)

Well, in a sense it's like a hybrid of super-8, 2x8mm and minidv. While it's not quite as simple as most super-8 cameras, it's even stabler than 2x8mm and one can easily buy modern negative film for it unlike for 2x8mm. Compared to 16mm it's much more compact and the sound features are neat.

I do wish I had money to buy one. It'd be nice to try shooting some 50D, make print and then magstripe it and record the logmar sound files on it. Sync sound super-8 prints!

It is a high end "stationary" cine camera for S-8 format. So basically a different concept than S-8 from my point of view.

With stationary I mean that it needs a tripod or a holding brace. Whereas a typically S-8 camera can be handled with your body alone (to some extent).

Great benefit of the Logmar compared to S-8 though is that it enables to use a steadycam (or similar rig) due to its video-out.

That example looks stellar for super 8! I wish that there was such a following for 8mm! It is nice that there is still interest- enough to make a new camera for Super8 film!

Yes, but it still looks unmistakably like Super 8. Fine for 'home movies' 20 years ago, but not today. If one goes to that much trouble, why not Super 16?

I do not get your point.

If this camera attracts you, why not change then from Standard-8 to Super-8?

Or is it that you are attracted by Standard-8 cameras but want that film stock in that format?

Well, super-8 has been used quite a lot for even Hollywood movies. Not to shoot the entire film, but some portions. For any commercial work stable and reliable camera is important, jitter never looks good even if you want super-8 look.

A little off topic but this is what I'm using as a wide-angle for 8-mm (non-super). Works out to about 2.5mm focal length. It is a Switar 5.5mm with a Kenko 0.5X Wide Angle adapter.
