New Rollei Infrared 400S ?

I recently ordered some Rollei Infrared 400 film but received Rollei Infrared 400S, so I'm wondering if this is just a change in the product code or if the film has changed?

Rollei also have a Retro 400S film so this confuses things even more.

Did you ask Maco? Their website shows no IR400S. IIRC Infrared400 and Retro 400S are more or less (or even exactly) the same film.

Everything arrived as it should. That was in December, then I ordered stuff again in January and February..
Rollei Infrared 400 and Rollei Retro 400S are different films, different sensitivity to IR and different "look".
Rollei RETRO 80S is kind of in-between (up to 750nm) + fine grain and fuller mid-tones. Good stuff!

I hope You will find explanation to what happened.

This is one of the reason's I went off Rollei films. You can't count on getting the same film this year as you did last year.

New ROLLEI 400S

ROLLEI films produced by AGFA in Belgium are invariably produced on synthetic film base. Some films are characterized, according to market lanch, with an "S" for synthetic. There seems to be probably the irretation. It is quite simple: there are only 2 ROLLEI films that are not poured on synthetic film base: ROLLEI Retro 100, produced in 2005 as APX100 by AGFA Germany, and packed by MACO. And, the two new ROLLEI RPX100 and RPX400 films, both poured on traditional triacetate film base.

Maco has changed the production plant in the year 2002 and 2003.
Since 2004 the Agfa Gevaert company is the main producer for the brand Rollei-Film.

Pan 25 never changed since 20 years. Now Maco is selling out this film as 35mm and is now selling the Efke Pan 25.

Ortho 25 never changed since 18 years.

ATP1.1 never changed since the market introduction in the year 2004.

ATO2.1 former Maco Genius Film, only the name has changed in 2004. Not the content.

Retro 80S never changed

Retro 400 S never changed

Superpan 200 never changed

Infrared 400 never changed since the market introduction in the year 2004. This is the successor of the Maco IR820c.
The Efke IR 820 is the successor of the Maco IR820.

Retro 100. Never changed since 2005, coated as Agfa APX 100 in Leverkusen/Germany.

RPX100 and RPX400. The Rollei successors of the Agfa APX100 and APX400.

Black Magic liquid photo emulsion never changed since 31 years.

The complete range of Rollei b&w chemistry is already in production for 25 years. In 2004 only the name changed from Labor Partner/Germany to Rollei.

If Retro 100 is APX100 and RPX100 is the replacement, how are they different? I presume that if RPX100 is intended to supplant APX100, it would retain the essential characteristics of the latter -- with improvements?

Infrared 400 never changed since the market introduction in the year 2004.

Infrared 400S is exactly the same film.
Like Retro 80S and Retro 400S the S stands for SYNTHETIC which is more clear for the name of this IR film.

APX 100/400 (Rollei Retro 100/400) is old Agfa Photo production 2005. So it's running to an end.
RPX100/400 seems to be new emulsions where some Harman/Ilford emulsion type is used to produce it.
