I shoot Pentax autofocus, SF1 and PZ 1, I have consumer grade zooms but not the pro level, the new FA 70 to 200 2.8 is on the market, don't know how good it will be with film, but what a price over $2000. Anyone on the list for one?

It is a FA not a D, covers full frame, Pentax has stated that the will release a full frame DSLR at the end of the year, in the meantime they have released a 70 to 200 2.8 and 150 to 450 F4 FA lens. So far I have seen only 1 review for the 20 to 200 which looks promising, but the 70 to 200 is over $2000, for that money I can buy a F 5 and a Nikon 70 to 200 2.8.

I shoot mostly primes, but when traveling it would be nice to have a high quality pro level zoom. I have the Sigma version of the 70 to 200 2.8 in Sigma mount, but the prisms in both my SD 7 and 9s are turning yellow, may get to the point where they not be usable, at which time I will dump all my Sigma gear film and DSLRs and either go with Pentax or think about Nikon or Canon.

Friend of mine had a zoom 70-200 f2.8 for canon. Together with eos 1 it is a monster that weights a ton. It is not a fun to have this when traveling and sightseeing all day - you will have pain in the shoulder and back.
Old zooms like nikkor 80-200 f4.5 are small and light - much better choice for health and wallet , and picture quality is great.

I have the last version of the 80-200/4.5 with the baffle at the rear. It is certainly lighter than an f/2.8 lens in that range but I wouldn't call it small and light. I'd rather carry a 105/2.5 and a late 200/4 than an 80-200 zoom.

I don't mind the weight, I carry the Sigma 70 to 200 2.8 without much trouble, I would like to reduce the number of lens to just a few. At times I carry a 105, 135 or 150 and 200 with a PZ 1P and with a second body SF1 with a wide like a 28 or 24, or just one body with 2 lens for travel + a DSLR. Right now I carry my SA9 with the 70 to 200 and a SD15 with a full frame 28 to 105. Just the sticker shock of the new Pentax lens, the last I time paid 2 grand for a body was my F3J in 1982 and I have never paid 2 grand for a lens, not even with inflation.

The DA 60-250 is also reputed to cover full frame. I won't swear blind to that because I have never used mine on film, but certainly when I mount it on my MZ-S I don't get any visible vignetting through the viewfinder.
