"New" Paper for Platinum/Palladium

I have worked a little with this paper a few weeks back (thanks to jeremy moore) and found it to be entirely too fragile in the bigger size I used to make 12x20 pt/pd prints. I imagine if I were coating on 11x14 paper or smaller it would be an ideal paper. The paper base color has a nice amount of warmth to it, seems to clear extremely easily. Really the only down side to it was the fragility after itd been in the clearing baths for a while .. the slightest finger foul up caused the edges to tear considerably. But aside from that I was pretty impressed with it.

This was my experience with it, too. I liked the color, I liked the smoothness, I loved the fast clearing. I thought it was a tad lightweight and sort of fragile, even in 11x14 size. I would have ordered some but found the minimum order to be kind of a large commitment.

Hi Athanasius,

It works very well with Cyanotype -> very good Dmax. But keep in mind that since the paper is quite warm, the color goes more into green -> especially with Classic formula (which is already too green compared to New Cyanotype). Something you may or may not prefer... I guess Lead Acetate toning will help for those who are in fond of Ultramarine Blue.

Minimum order of 11x14 is 100 sheets for about $100 plus shipping.

But, for $20 more, you get 4x the amount of paper (100 sheets of 22x34) if you don't mind cutting it down yourself. Or, for $20 LESS you get 2x the amount of paper (50 sheets of 22x34). Cut your own and save $$.

I don't see any point in buying this cut down to 11x14 as for an extra $20 (say an extra $30 total for $10 more in shipping) to get 100 sheets of 22x34.

I have no trouble cutting it down, as I do that with Stonehenge and Fabriano Artistico. I guess I just wasn't sure I liked it enough to buy a whole bunch of it. I liked it, but thought it was just a bit fragile, especially in larger pieces (like, when I print a diptych or triptych). The smallest order of the 22x34 is 50 sheet, which, with shipping is like $85. That just seems like a big commitment to a paper I'm not 100% on. If they sold 20 sheets I think I'd buy it. Maybe I will ask John if he'll sell smaller lots.

mention has been made here of Stonehenge. Readers may be interested in knowing that the new owners of the Rising Mill in Housatonic, MA have announced that it is not profitable and will be closed in June.

The end of an era. The mill is over 100 years old.

They are now also selling Weston paper in 28" x 34".
