Does anyone know how much the OM-2s sold for when new (late 70's)?

My first 35 mm SLR was an OM-2 that I bought in San Diego in 1977. I seem to remember it was pretty expensive at the time- $500.00 or more with a normal lens. It was a great camera, and along with a Beseler 23c-XL, made some nice pix.

The OM2S is listed as being made from 1984 to 1988, OM2 listed as being made from 1975 to 1979 and there are several different versions of the kit as being listed, and range from about $600 to $865 if you got the black kit with the 55mm f/1.2 lens model.

The OM2S is listed as selling from about $440 to $865 with the 55mm f/1.2

Thanks Dave. I seem to remember paying $574 for my OM-2 kit which back in 1977 was a LOT of money (especially to a starving student)! When I lost the camera in 1979 due to theft it was a major loss. The San Diego Police found the camera years later at a pawn shop near the US/Mexico border but didn't retrieve it in the legal amount of time and the pawnshop owner was able to legally sell it without liability. All I have left is the owner's manual and the body and lens caps. :- (

I think my first OM2n was 250 pounds in 1979. I think one pound equalled around $2 at the time so that would be about $500.

I have a Dec. 1979 copy of Popular Photography and it is showing the OM2n for $305, $350 with a 50mm/f1.8. Using inflation calculators, this would be equivalent to $864 and $991 today.

The Pop Photo prices are probably the street prices, the Orion book I have only shows the suggested retail prices..

Sorry, should have been more explicit. The prices that I showed were an approximate average of available street prices.

I know it isn't the same, but I remember paying about $350 for an OM1n in about 1978. My first camera, my first bank-loan.
