"New" Nikon F

I just bought a Nikon F made in 1965. It has the Photomic Ftn finder. The manual for the Ftn calls for two 1.3 volt mercury batteries which, of course, are no longer made. Are there any suitable replacements currently available which would allow me to actually use the meter ? Thank you all in advance for responding.

Win Air or hearing batteries, Win are 1.3 hearing batteries are 1.4, I use hearing aid batteries in my Miranda's and Petire;s with good results, just change often. There are also adapters that allow 1.5 batteries to be used, ask google is there is one for the F.

I used Wein batteries in my FTN finder for awhile, but they didn't last too long. I ended up splurging for the CRIS MR-9 adapters, which allow the use of modern 386 silver-oxide batteries. Works like a charm. Not cheap, but I can also use them in any other camera that was designed for old PX13/PX625 batteries.

Don't be surprised if the meter has died when you put the batteries in. Of seven Nikons of that era I've bought over the years only one had a working light meter.

You might try modern 1.5 625, they all work in my cameras.

You could use two 675 hearing aid batteries in these adapters (one for each battery):

The batteries should last a few months but they are inexpensive.

A Nikon FT bought new in 1967 impressed me with the accuracy and convenience of its meter, but not with the meter's bulk and top-heaviness. Even while the meter still worked, a prism finder and Weston Master 2 was often preferred. Unfortunately, good Nikon F prisms have become scarce and expensive.
