NEW MF 3D stereo camera

If you enjoy MF 3D photography then a new camera from China has jumped onto the market.

It takes two 6x6cm negs or transparencies for a total of 6 pairs on 120. It looks a little bulky but nice. I believe it is the first MF stereo camera to have built in metering. It is in its second version meaning the bugs in the first production run have been worked out.

Camera retails at $1395.00 USD and comes with mounting jig, 6x6 stereo viewer and accessories.

I bought the handheld MF viewer from this company to view my 6x6cm stereo pairs from a 1960's Sputnik Russian camera. The Sputnik is fraught with technical issues like sticky shutter blades, mismatched focus, and light leaks. When I do get a decent pair, viewing them in MF 3D is awesome.

One day when I have a little more money I'd love to get this new camera to play with.

Interesting.

Agreed on 3D MF slides being absosutely incredible....! I just joined the 3D club outta Cleveland, and saw some there. Wow - they look better than reality, I think!

Those do look interesting, and medium format stereo is a thing to behold, but for now I think I'll stick to my slide bar. I *think* that Helen may have one of these though...

Well, I haven't noticed one in my camera bag...

No, I don't have one. I'm interested in the forthcoming Gaoersi and Fotoman MF offerings, but I suspect that I'll stick with my slide bar.

I used a homemade slide bar myself with a 35mm camera. The advantages are different focal lengths and lens separations. But I soon realized that I was limiting myself to purely static subjects.

I mostly shoot 3D for fun so I decided to forego the slide bar. The Sputnik that I have is great for handheld candid and action shots. I even do long dusk exposures of city street scenes. Working with a fixed 80mm lens can be challenging but we can't have it all.

I "staged" one shot of my girlfriend throwing a frisbee towards the camera one summer day. It turned out really cool with my girlfriend in the background and the frisbee in the foreground slightly blurred by a 1/30 shutter speed.

That's certainly the problem with a slide bar. I prefer medium format stereo, but my primary stereo camera is still the Stereo Realist (35mm). It's just easier to carry around, can handle a moving object without any problems, and it's more discrete from those times where you're not supposed to be taking pictures (not that *I* would do that of course, I'm just sayin'...). For architectural stuff I do prefer medium format transparencies, but the mounts are kind of expensive (for me anyway) so I try to keep to the more serious stuff to keep the cost down.

This camera looks interesting. But at the distressed prices of medium format cameras available today, mounting a pair of Haselblad 500 series or a pair of Rollei 6006's together could be quite interesting as well.
