Do you meet every month? I live down in Las Cruces, so I couldn’t make it often, but I wouldn’t mind dropping in at some point.

I wish I still lived in Albuquerque, and I'd probably be a regular attendee. I'm a native born New Mexican andI lived in Albuquerque for several years when I was a student at the University of New Mexico. Nowadays I live in Tucson AZ and that's way too far to drive for the meetings!

For just a meeting, yes, but if you make a weekend of it. Head up to Bisti or Chaco for photos, stop at the Owl Cafe in San Antonio for lunch. New Mexico has a lot of great locations for photos that aren't as well known (Arizona does too)

Yes.. that would make a trip to Albuquerque a great experience! I've definitely enjoyed the New Mexico green chili cheeseburgers in San Antonio at both the Owl Cafe and Buckhorn Tavern. There isn't anything like a New Mexico green chili cheeseburger in Arizona! I haven't been to either the Bisti Badlands or Chaco, although I have traveled a lot around New Mexico (I was born in Socorro). Thanks for the reminder of the many opportunities for travel in New Mexico, a journey there with a join in with New Mexico Film Photographers would make for a great trip!

Mike...I've wanted to attend the last two but for Sunday adventures ... maybe we could get together some other time, maybe at Satellite ... I'd like to see some of your recent work and, perhaps, show you maybe a hundred prints from B&W inkjet Exchanges , both film and dslr. I'll be shooting Acros and FP4 as well as digi in upcoming Anazasi trip.

Should keep this up to date on Photrio (I avoid Flickr and Facebook).

I went to my first meeting this past Sunday...a dozen interesting people, even some evidence that some of them are actual film photographers! Well and minimally organized, great Meetup report immediately after...amazing !

Michael Thomas coffee is a great place...I live far across town, otherwise I'd go there often. Excellent decaf coffee and pastries

"Hope to see you at the next NM Film Photographers meetup on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 9:30 AM in the east room of the Frontier Restaurant.
I had three pictures printed at Costco recently and will bring them along to the meeting. I hope others will bring some examples of recent work as well. I don't have any concrete agenda items other than sharing some pictures, but I always learn something new at the monthly get-togethers.
I do have a post-meeting agenda which I would like to suggest. One of the attractions of the Fine Arts Library on the fourth floor of the Architecture School building just across the street from the Frontier is a very fine collection of Twentieth Century film cameras in a display case. The fellow who put together the collection and the library display is one of the librarians, Gregory Peterson. I emailed Greg recently asking if he might be willing to give our group a personal tour of the collection, and he agreed to do so at noon on the Sunday of our meetup. If you cannot stay after the meeting for the visit to the library, the collection can be viewed any time. The Fine Arts Library also has what must be one of the best collections of books about photography in the country. It is a very pleasant place to visit for reading or research, and the university does offer a guest borrower's card for a modest yearly fee.
Some follow-up on the last meetup:
Those who attended the January meetup will recall that I showed some pictures I had found in a thrift store which were apparently part of an exhibit about a Native American community which I believed to be one to the west of Albuquerque near Grants, New Mexico. That appears to have been a correct guess, though the community location is a bit further south than I had thought. I showed the pictures to a friend of Margaret who has a home in Acoma Pueblo; she snapped a picture of the print showing the terrain and took it with her when she visited the Pueblo shortly afterward. Margaret then received a phone photo sent from the location which clearly shows exactly the same terrain which is shown in the print I found at the thrift store. Our friend has expressed some optimism that she may be able to identify the subjects of the prints and possibly the photographer as well.
This has been a real learning experience for me. I spent quite a lot of time using Google Earth trying to locate the precise spot where the pictures were made without success. It turns out that is not a particularly good strategy as the Google Earth images are constructed by computation and generally unsuited to identifying specific terrain features. What does work much better is to use the Street View mode of Google Maps which show actual photographs made by the Google Maps survey car as it drives along roadways. Once I learned that two of the prints showed a location on the road to Acoma south of McCartys I was able to just follow the Google Maps car route to the scene depicted in the print which shows the distinctive ridge formation with Mt. Taylor in the background. I hope to be able to post an update about the found prints on my blog in the near future."

New Mexico Film Photographers met online for the past two years. We recently have had a couple in-person meetings as well. Our next meeting is scheduled for 9:00 AM on Dec. 4, 2022 at the Albuquerque Art Museum. A couple members will be showing prints and talking about their adventures in large format. Images are shared online on the Flickr New Mexico Film Photographers Group (https://www.flickr.com/groups/nm-film-photographers/) and on the NM Film Photographers Group on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/629506264496797/).

I lived in Abq many years, spread out over a few different times. Went to UNM for painting and ceramics until I figured out there was a better way. That turned out to be a move to a building on Central Ave that had a lot of different artists working in different mediums. We hung out at, where else?, The Frontier Restaurant, which was open 24hrs a day back then, 365 days a year.

The light in New Mexico is magical for photographers and painters both. I just moved from Tucson to Little Rock (love Little Rock!). Tucson didn't have the same sort of light, and definitely didn't have the same demographics.

New Mexico is pretty. Two views of Shiprock. from ground level and from 35,000 feet.

Excellent (and unusual) Shiprock photos (details would be interesting...my 400# mm isn't long enough ... and who flies jets over Shiprock? ... drone could be rewarding).... The Shiprock community rarely gets mentioned anywhere...it is more than couple of remote houses, has various crucial Navajo/BIA bureaucratic services which like everything on the Navajo are hard for the people to reach.
