New Metropolis film on kickstarter from Lomo!

Well this is interesting.
Do you think it's an all new film?

Anyway, I backed it. Looks fun and interesting. And Lomo is one of those companies that actually delivers on its Kickstarter campaigns!

And they actually made it before the Kickstarter campaign started? What sense would such make?

Well, they speak of colour deficiencies from the start. That of course would reduce costs....

Why do u say natural colour? It clearly is not that.
They announced the campaign this morning and have already reached 45% of the goal. With 38 days remaining. Clearly there is demand!

"Natural-colour Film" is a term from photoengineering. It describes a film were the colours are automaticall determined by the subject, not the photographer (handcoloured) or some process by the manufacturer (fun-/effect-films). The term does not mean that the hues are a good representation of the subject.

Yuck.

It sounds like one of their color layer rearrangement ~~failures~~ experiments that they're now marketing as something new and cool. The film base looks kind of strange, too. At first I thought it might be cross-processed E100, but the E100 actually looks better.

Well, it does seem to me that they are aiming their product toward people who are looking for something that appeals subjectively to those that want something different.
Any time you are trying to appeal to the subjective, you have to expect that a fairly high percentage of people will not like the results.
It does look a lot like some results from bleach bypass (Saving Private Ryan?).
It doesn't appeal to my preferences, but that is fine. My only complaint is that they are using a film name with "chrome" in it for a C41 negative product, which I think adds a bit of confusion to a film market that had essentially settled on using "chrome" for transparency films.
But of course, that ship has already sailed with their earlier products.
I hope it is successful, and leads to them developing additional films that appeal more to me and others that have similar tastes.

Eh, not so much. One, I'm not old and two, even though I enjoy some toy cameras and 'lo-fi' photography, Lomography's marketing has always turned me off. It reeks of taking advantage of young naiveté and extracting as much money as possible from their customers. Their past 'new films' were short-lived gimmicks.

Maybe they should bring back Kodachrome 10. They can market it as color film that you process in B&W developer....and call it Colorblind.

These kinds of color films are easy to make. Just make a mistake in manufacturing and voila, a new type of film.

We did that at Kodak ofttimes by just erring a bit, in this case by leaving the scavenger chemistry out of the interlayers and we got color like in the examples.

I agree that they should not call it LomoChrome, as Chrome is synonymous to slide
film. Wonder why they didnt call it LomoKolor? It even reads more hipster spelled with a K..

you have to wonder if the Purple film is made much the same way. (of course perhaps delibratly making a mistake, or asking a supllier what they have in their "rolls destined for Silver recovery" bins.

How much does omitting the scavengers affect the effective film speed?

I quite like the bleach-bypass sort of look it gives.

It has no effect on film speed. It just muddies up colors as you see above. And it makes the film a lot less expensive to manufacture.

Huss if this film is new is there any indication who has made it? Is it Lomo and if so where is the factory? The whole announcement seems to talk a lot but actually say little of substance

Can we cross a variation of Kentmere off our list?

Yes. There are not too many colour film factories, but speculation is good fun.

My money is on the one you didn't think it would be

True but I hope we all like information and openess in announcements engendering trust. If I get more hype than substance then I suspect I have a snake-oil salesman in front of me. Entertaining for say 10 minutes but that's not really enough to put my faith in his oil

I find it interesting, to say the very least, how a well established company is using a platform that was once meant to facilitate startups for creating a buzz around, what looks like, a regular new product. From a marketing point of view you have to give them credits for pitching their products and creating a typical Lomography hype that goes with it.

The campaign will be successful, the product will come to market and it will be available in their webshop as a regular product once it is launched. I do not think there is a need to support their campaign just to get your hands on a couple of rolls.
