How's this for justification:
"But honey, look! You can use the same roll film holder on this 617 as on the view camera. How's that for saving?"

No? Ok... what about
"But HCB said himself you can't crop a photo - it must be framed in the mind's eye and shot as-is in camera. See, we need that format."

Iffy you say... ok then:
"But dear, of course we can afford it. Junior's college education is way overated anyway."

Good that Linhof and fuji have alternatives but I am still awaiting the Mamiya 8. The 6x8 neg with its great aspect ratio and 9 frames on a roll (perfect for bracketing), with lessons learned from the RF645, such as automatic light shield when removing lenses bla bla bla.

No.... the existence of the Horseman and Linhof 617 cameras are what you use to justify the $500 Chinese 617 back on the grounds of the thousands you'll be saving.

In the home market, Fuji sold 6x8 versions of the final generation (III) of the big rangefinder with both the 65mm (GSW680III) and 90mm (GW680III) lens.

If I remember right, the Fuji 6x17 was selling for about $5000. I suspect this will be in the same range. Someday.....
