IR filter for the 21mm Skopar ordered yesterday - I'm all set! And the spring is coming along nicely, as well...

21mm Skopar? Does that mean that you've got a Voigtlander? I've got a Bessa R2 which I really like, but I've never tried IR in it. I've always been a bit concerned that the clear film window would fog the film. Maybe I'll give it a go when these Maco films turn up and try covering the window with black tape.

Yes Mike, a wonderful little Bessa L - separate viewfinder, no rangefinder, mechanical shutter and all. I'm planning to test IR in some really tight corners with it

The European batch of films arrived today.

There was very little information with the films. No technical data sheet, no individual boxes etc. There's just a label on the main box saying;

ISO 400 sensitivity without filter
ISO 800 1/3 longer development

Sensitivity is 380nm to 820nm.

The base material is clear polyester 100μm, non-curling backside coating.

They recommend a 1 minute presoak (I presume there's an anti-halation layer)

The only developer they have times for is LP Supergrain 1 + 7 which is a developer I'm not familiar with. The times are;

ISO 400 5 mins at 20C
ISO 800 7 mins at 20C

I looked on Mahn's website and there's a technical note for the slower, fine grained version of the IR820 which also recommends the same dev times using LP Supergrain, but it also gives times for other developers,

ID11/D76 stock is 7 mins
XTol 1+2 is 16 mins
HC110 Dil B is 5 mins
T-max 1+4 is 6 mins

No times for Rodinal ;( but I expect that a guess can be made based on the relatives times of ID11 etc. Although, I've never liked Kodak HIE with Rodinal, so I shall probably start with D76 at 7 mins and go from there.

And that's it !

There's no warning about loading the film in the dark or subdued light, however I will treat the film as Kodak HIE and load/unload in a changing bag.

I'll package up the films over the next couple of days and pm everyone and let you know how much it comes to and we'll sort out addresses/money etc.

Now all I need is some sun and some infra-red rays -- not something we see much of in April up in the Shropshire hills

And for a US update, the purchase has been made. I seem to recall that there was an older tech sheet from Maco which had a list of all sorts of developers (possibly Rodinal too). I'll have to check when I get home.

When you test it, we should all take notes how we develop them and combine them in a list and possibly submit them to the Massive Development Chart at some point.

I will let you know when the films arrive. When I get home, I will post the list of people that I have who are to get some film and how many rolls they requested in this thread.

Okay, the information I have for Agfa Rodinal is as follows:
For Maco IR 820c (NOT THIS NEW FILM!!!):
1:12 dilution for 9 minutes. 20 deg. C (agitation 2 x 30 sec.) gamma = 0.65 (vague light enlargers?) not sure what that means, it's a page translated from German via computer.
for condensor enlargers, reduce times by 5-10 % (if necessary)

"vague light enlargers" = Diffusion light source enlargers, I would believe?

I just got the following email from Maco:

The technical datas are 1:1 comaptibel with MACO IR 820c/Aura, see the PDF:
www.mahn.net

Only the ISO speed is different, 400 instead of 100 ISO, without filters.

At this moment we prefer the same developing times, compare to the "old version".

I checked their site above and they had the current Technical Application pdf for the Maco 820c/Aura films out there. Just thought I'd let you know.

That's good! Although I posted them last Friday, first class, so they must still be using New Forest ponies for delivery down your way!!!

I meant to get out at the weekend as the sun showed it's face briefly, but "she who must be obeyed" wanted the lawn cut, and the kids wanted me to play football etc etc....

Maybe this weekend .....

I was snooping around MACO's site after loading the Bessa L with the new film, and found a pdf with spectral sensitivities of various films. From that it seems that MACO Cube 400c has sensitivity to about 760nm - could it be that they have extended the sensitivity a little bit, and that we can treat it as Cube?

Film is in camera, will be exposed tomorrow...
