I had been using an old, nay, ancient set of Kodak contrast filters. I went out and bought a set of new Ilford filters and WOW! what a difference they make.

I'm just thrilled to be able to make a decent print again.

Anyway...just thought I'd share my thrill for the day. :0

Surprising eh? I indulged in a new set awhile ago and all of a sudden split grade printing worked!

I change 'em every 3 years or so, usually because they're a bit dog-eared and grubby. It's a shame I couldn't just replace the G.00 and G.5 as they're the ones I use most.

What causes them to go bad? I've got several sets that have been in storage for 8 years. Are they no good?

You can compare them pretty easy by contact printing a 21 step wedge.

interesting. I had not thought of them going bad. I guess I just assumed that the old Kodak filters were not the "right" colors for the modern Ilford paper....Comparing the colors sets (old Kodak vs new Ilford) supported this assumption. The colors are wildly different.
