Oh for anyone who cares, the lens was in in excellent shape with the exception of some very tiny marks on the very edge of the metal rim where it might have rubbed on something. You had to closely inspect the lens to see it. Nothing to affect the performance was found. All aperture stops are crisp and the focusing ring is like butter. Took it out yesterday and am awaiting the lab to finish dev.
That lens might produce great results, but it's no pancake. Here's a REAL pancake -- the Minolta Auto-Rokkor (even though it's only inscribed "ROKKOR") 45mm f2.8:

I would love to see the results! I just ordered this lens last night to go with a Nikon FM I picked up for cheap.

This is veering off-topic, but Nikon made not just one, but two, similar 45mm "real" pancakes. There's the GN Auto NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8 and the AI Nikkor 45mm f/2.8P.

huh, Nikon only made 3 manual focus AI-P lenses.
And I don't think the other two are pancakes...

I think that's what they call a "short stack" of pancakes.
