My kid brother and his wife are coming up for a visit next weekend and I decided now might be the time to purchase that 165 f2.8 6x7 lends I've been putting off. Not that I don't have other telephoto lens for 35mm but wanted to get some shots of them together/separately on "Big Bertha", as I've dubbed the 6x7. KEH had a nice one I'd been looking over so went ahead and got it today. It should be here by next Thursday or Friday.

I don't get much of a chance to photograph people unless I go downtown and do some street shooting since I have no family but him in another state and no wife, kids, etc., s; this will be a good opportunity. Hopefully, it won't rain the whole time they're here.

Setup a small studio...

At least pick out a place in the yard that looks good, or a local park.

Shoot before the sun goes down...

I can't tell you how many opportunities slipped by as I grill and tend bar for family and friends.

Then when I finally think of shooting there is no light.

I had a nice studio downstairs in what was once the family room. I had several nice 10x20 canvas backgrounds by Westcott, hair light on an overhead boom, reflectors, Westcott 28" Recessed Apollo with Photogenic 1500 light inside, etc. Long story but all gone. There's plenty of places out back for nice portraits. I've done some of the best shots of my dog out there. It's a matter of dof choice.

The lens got here this morning. One thing I found out real quickly after mounting it, I can't hold it as still as I once did. I guess I'll either have to use that detestable tripod or go to at least 250 or 500th second on my exposures. When I used the 165 LS lens it was mostly for portraits and weddings and I did use the tripod then. Maybe I just thought I could hold it better back then. It seemed a bit awkward today.

Maybe I'm more use to the featherweight M2 and the Pentax just seems heavy.

You need to do some Burtha-Curls and tone up.

How did you like the 165mm LS? I'm looking to get one.

I loved the 165LS. It was sharp and the colors were great. The most important feature of that lens is being able to sink at something greater than 1/30th second. Most of the time I used 125 and had no problem with "ghost" images like I did once in a while with 1/30th. Great lens.

Yeah, that's what I'm looking forward to. Gotta keep it under 1/500 due to slow syncing wireless triggers.
