Can anyone point me to an example of the newest version of Kentona in lith? I feel like I have seen examples that I like, but I have no way of confirming which version of Kentona was used. Thanks.
And what's the new version of Kentona ? Really you should just try some for yourself, there's not a new version, it's just production has shifted from Kenall to Mobberly. How will you know which you are buying anyway.
I was under the impression that they changed their emulsion and it affected the way in which it liths. As for trying it myself, I have only seen it in 100 sheet boxes and don't want to waste that kind of money on a guess. I would assume that the new version is all that is available as the emulsion changed some time ago. I think the older one was more pinkish and the newer one is less colorful. I could be wrong.
I see what you mean now, but the older version with cadmium in hasn't been available for quite a long time now, so check out Tim Rudmans comments on his website for lith printing with the newer version.
This is a one year old lith print using Fotospeed LD20 and the 'new' Kentona. It works just fine, but there seems to be a narrow sweet spot where color is intense and grain is fine.
I didn't quite hit it with this but think the grain suits the subject matter.
I like it, but have standardized on papers so I don't buy Kentona anymore.
Thanks, Thomas. Is the Kentona as glossy as Fomatone? I found Fomatone to be very glossy for FB paper and I would like something a little more matte, though not fully matte.
Nope, not nearly as glossy. But a very beautiful texture with lots of 'depth'. It's as if the emulsion is sunk deep into the paper. A very pleasing look.
