Why is it hard to buy a roll of Vision 3? I can buy a roll off B&H. Surely you can buy a roll from one of the big photography stores in Europe and have them ship it to you. They should remove VAT from the price. What about eBay? Are there no filmmakers in Egypt? Where do they get their film? Do you want to pay someone to sneak it in so you don't have to pay a tax or tariff? Why all the drama? And what did you do about the deal you wanted to make with Kodak,.? Did you find any alternatives?
- I want to buy an ECN2 reel and bring it to Egypt with a traveler for a fee (financial reward), but I still haven't found anyone.
Many years ago I did the same thing with KODAK I tried to arrange a HUGE special order
Hundreds of buyers, whole Master Roll. I had everything arranged, and they, they said NO .. Their loss, it would have been a lot of money.
I hope you and your group bought all your film someplace else!
My Cousin
I think you are right and I think you are wrong, like Ying=Yang
They do not care about you, only money, but it is only "business".

Any company with an established distribution network would have no reason to this for you. It would be a loss to them only if you were buying it instead of film from another company, or your buyers were new to film.
It is not that they don't appreciate your money or your attempt. It is just business logistic. Their sales network is an important asset for them. It feed them money on a regular basis and not in a once in lifetime huge purchase basis. Selling small batches here and there will damage their dealers, since they will lose a sizeable market share, which is already small enough, so it won't make any sense to dealers (small or big) to sell film or will mean that they will have to raise their price it order to make business sense. On the end, it will damage the individual photographer that don't belong to a big group, which will have to pay greater prices for film.
By the way, I'm pretty sure the same could be accomplished by doing it thru a regular distribuition channel (your local film seller or a big company). Remember that you film dealer company is not evil, making itself rich, but a friend. I'm sure they can place a big order for a small comission.
Best regards
When Kodak Alaris came on the scene they made a big deal out of saying they would make boutique on-demand coatings from their "vault" but they have never done that and don't even respond to questions about it. Now that they are owned by the Sinopromise it makes it even more less likely.I think that tollcoating request was about having Kodak make a film again that had been iconic for photographers in America and in Kodak's range of products since the 30's. To our understanding, well what we know, it was not retracted by Kodak as it harmed their sales of their other films.

Our story is very complicated, because of the security aspect. What seems to be the problem? Is shipping to Egypt not possible/very expensive?
There's another possible source - Ferrania. They found the recipe for P30 in an old notebook. How many other fully researched old formulations (that never quite made it to market) might they have that could be considered "new" once enough JCH money is spent to adjust for the outlawed ingredients? The first few tries would suck like what has been shown, and they would have plenty of reasons to not take credit for it. Could JCH be the secret backer that kept them from folding completely?
Thanks for the very honest replyI know absolutely nothing about JCH, this Horatio guy, or anything about Ferrania beyond what they've said. I just dreamed it up because it sounded good.
