Fujifilm has been axing some brilliant and much-loved films, some of which no comparison is currently manufactured.
Many people in the film community didn't see the future of Fujifilm...film very bright.

However, it seems there (might be) a tiny light at the end of the tunnel, as Fuji seems to be putting more money into advertising of their left-over stocks.

They have launched a new website dedicated to film: https://www.ishootfujifilm.com/

On this website, they show Superia 200, 400, Pro400H, Provia and Velvia film stocks.
They also show labs, info about how film works and how to shoot it, and photography events for film photography.

Of course, actions speak louder than words. Is this just an advertising shell, or is there help for Fuji to bring back film?

We'll see.

Thoughts?

for me, a light at the end of the tunnel would be bringing back Acros and 1600 b/w films. otherwise it's just spin. It's also rich that they show b/w negatives on the light table...sigh

Well, it at least shows that they are thinking about not cutting remaining film types. This is a good thing. Also, the website is geared towards first time users. This is also a good thing.

I also emailed the ishootfilm people and asked them to please bring back Acros Film. I'm sure that they will get right on it.

Please keep us updated if they bring back any film!

That was the first thing I noticed as well. Perhaps they were able to scale down film production and make a profit by making smaller film volumes. Who knows ....

Good at least to see that SOMEONE at FujiFilm remembers the reason the company has that particular name.

Maybe they just needed to cut down on their product portfolio to keep only films with enough volume to make a big (normal, really) coating run and sell that off before it goes bad. Fuji has the advantage of selling tons of Instax, so the coating line as such is save.

Superia 1600, as nice as it is, probably doesn't sell enough over the lifetime of the emulsion. And for Acros, didn't they say that a component became unavailable?

Is the superia branded film the same superia that we used to have 2-3 years ago? I've noticed they dropped the "4th colour layer" information off the box.

now now be nice. I would love the option to shoot MORE KINDS of Fuji Film, I really grew to love the Legacy Pro 400. (AKA Neopan [Presto]
400)
No doubt. I have been buying Fujichrome and freezing. I stumbled onto a case of 120 Acros, overstock, frozen, I bought before the announcement. I would rather see Fuji stay out of B&W to leave more for the others. God forbid anything happen to Ilford and Foma. (or anyone making film and paper )

I think only Superia XTRA 400 has the fourth layer. I do like this film, and it is the only one I can buy locally other than one drug store that offers Kodacolor. I would like to see Acros come back/stay (I bought three 135-36 rolls a couple months ago- have one left).

Well, yes perhaps ....

But on the other hand, why prominently feature a product line that is not part of your portfolio?

I hadn't heard that before.
I think the component in question, whatever that was, was allegedly found in 400 Neopan and not Acros but frankly I cannot recall if it was ever revealed by Fuji what the component was, why it had disappeared and why there was no easy alternative component

It may even have been that we on Photrio, as is our way on such matters sometimes, supplied our own information, accurate or otherwise, as to what the problem was.

Given what appears to be the lack of transparency by Fuji on its products, my jury remains out in terms of delivering any verdict on whether this new site heralds a real change for Fuji

No, you're not dreaming this. I heard it too, but it was in the context of talk that Fuji was considering bringing back Acros -- specifically that a new Acros would (necessarily?) be a reformulation.

Also, I completely accidentally ran into a Fuji rep at a photography store in Youngstown, Ohio a few months ago. This store had some remaining stock of Acros in 120 that I scooped up, and when I asked the owner when he'd have more, he said, "Talk to Cindy!" and pointed me to her. (I really don't remember her name.) Anyway "Cindy" was obviously there on digital business, but she said she was hearing constant moaning about the axing of Acros, and said that she was always putting it in her monthly report. Also, she did confirm there was speculation that Fuji was considering bringing Acros back, but she didn't have any details.

Thanks, bvy. You may easily be right and whatever the component in 400 Neopan was also in Acros. It was just that I recall the disappointment about the ditching of Neopan 400 and the thread on this being quite a long time before the demise of Acros was announced.

I still have 4 rolls each of Superia 200 and 800 in my freezer....so I will still occasionally shoot Fuji. My 120 rolls of Reala are gone. I might still buy Superia 400 if I can get a decent price on it. It's good stuff. But they do seem to have axed the emulsions I most liked....

That said, the fact that they're doing some promotion of their remaining films is good.
