Welcome to Photrio. Don't be afraid to share your knowledge and experience. Very few professional printers around.

My customers are mostly fashion photographers.

That's very interesting. Do they specifically request or value darkroom prints, at least to an extent? The question of the market (and intrinsic) value of handmade/darkroom prints pops up from time to time, and we see relatively few people comment on this from a real-world, commercial perspective. I think your insights would be very interesting to hear!

My customers work with top luxery brands or other clients that ask especially for an „analog“ or „unique“ look. They are ready to pay additionally for that. Most prints for fashion industry get scanned. I like the result of a scan from a print more than from a film scan. I rarely do exhibition prints or artistic stuff like photograms nowadays. But I’m always ready to take a job up to 3x3m size.

The newcomers in Berlin print their work in the darkroom of their school. Well known artists, with international reputation (and budget) choose Susanna Kirschnik (color) and Jochen Rohner (bw). Imho they are the best darkroom printers in Germany, both have a big darkroom & workshop in Berlin.

In general, a lot of young people in Berlin are interested in darkroom printing. It was always a pleasure to offer workshops to them.

If anyone has specific questions give me a shout.

Thanks for offering this quick reflection and great to hear that not only people say they like darkroom prints, but that at least a few companies are in fact willing to pay for them, too!

Yes, I very much agree.
