I just received a notification from Freestyle that they have a new Ilford 400-speed color negative film in stock.
"Vintage Tone". $14.95/roll.

Old news.

And... it the other Ilford.

Yes - the remnants of the part of Ilford that was responsible for Cibachrome/Ilfochrome.
Not the Harman Technology version that is responsible for the black and white Ilford and Kentmere products many of us here think of.
Since 2014, this Ilford has been Ilford Imaging Europe GmbH - established as a joint venture between Chugai Photo Chemical Co Ltd of Tokyo, Japan and CR Kennedy & Company Pty Ltd of Melbourne, Australia.
Here is their film lineup - which includes ECN-2 film and E6 transparency film based on the Kodak motion picture E6 film: https://ilfocolor.com/ilfocolor-film/

Is this repackaged movie film (ECN-2), or something like Orwo 500?

Not repackaged movie film.
It is similar to the current Wolfen NC 500, but not identical. The differences are visible, e.g. a different base color.
The film is made by InovisCoat in Germany (who are still in insolvency).
In my opinion this film is way overpriced concerning its performance. A friend of mine has tested it, and showed me the results. Not convincing.

Thanks for the heads-up! No point in using it, if the results are poor, and the price is high.
