New here, a shy hello!

Welcome on APUG. I am sure you will learn a lot here - I certainly have. As others have said, self-taught can be tough going and challenging, but also very rewarding. On the other hand, one does learn a lot by first-hand observation and being guided by someone more experienced. Do take up Ian on his offer if you can. Apart from that, look at many photographs, and ask many questions. Buy a few good books (there is some good advice on this forum on which ones are worthwhile) and most importantly, practice regularly and systematically. Then you will only get better, and you will enjoy it more, too.

Thank you all again for the nice welcomes!

I'm still finding my way round but I'm looking forward to a nice stay here.

But keep in mind that with the Zenit E you'll save on a hammer...

He he! That's true! The funny thing is whenever anyone comments on my camera all I can think to say back is how heavy it is!

I like mine. However the moment I decided to take it with me regularly one curtain strip tore... As I'm not in the mood for repair at the moment, it has to wait.

That's a shame. I've taken at least one of mine if not two or three pretty much everywhere with me for quite a while now and thankfully nothing to disastrous has happened. I'm not sure if I'd be up to repairs, the best I've done is putting a self timer back together.

Welcome to APUG and going by your profile, are you related to Rita Tushingham?
