Alaris has released a new disposable camera, with an ISO800 film in it. Is this a new film from Kodak? Surely it can't be filled with Portra 800 can it?

Kodak used to sell a consumer 800ISO film not too long ago.

EDIT: Yes, Kodak Max 800.

kodak has had disposable cameras with iso 800 fllm in them for years .. its 800MAX film

Before posting i looked on the Alaris web site for an ISO800 film and only found Portra. That's why I figured it was a new film.

So is this Kodak Max 800 a colour negative film and if so is it the downmarket version of Portra 800 that is reserved for single use cameras only? I have never seen Max 800 on sale at any U.K. dealers.

Surprised they are manufacturing two ISO 800 color emulsions. What would make one emulsion less expensive to manufacture than another?

it is strange but their is a "Kodak 800 film for single use cameras" only comes in a Kodak Camera and has the Castellated spool that Kodak single use camera require. presumed to be Max 800 which is no longer in the line otherwise. the single use cassettes don't have a bar code number, and are all white with black lettering.

Yes,
and the camera itself is not new either, if that matters. I got it in my collection, filled with ISO 400 film though (Exp. 2011).
And single use cameras are still on the shelves here, though not ISO 800 ...

Kodak has 800 ISO waterproof single use cameras in Japan.
I am pretty sure it's MAX800 film. Used them 2 years ago on a trip to Okinawa. Really good stuff.

It's been available for some years. And it's 800MAX film.....probably the same stuff Kodak sell to Lomography for their 800 film....if so i'ts good stuff.

IIRC, 800 ISO ("Max 800") Kodak Fun Saver disposable cameras have been available at Walmart in Canada for at least 4 years. However, I guess the camera announced in this thread is different: it has 39 exposures, no flash, and different package design. AFAIK, Max 800 film is not sold outside of these cameras. Unfortunately, the Walmarts in my area of Canada have stopped selling UltraMax 400 in the past ~12 months. You can still buy Gold 200 (24 exp), and it's a good price.

In my area, London Drugs carries Fuji Superia 200 and 400, but now only in single 36 exp rolls (no multi-packs), and it's rather expensive. They also carry Fuji and Ilford disposables.

From the link provided, all I see is that the design has changed compared to the product which has been available for some years. A Kodak branded single use camera loaded with MAX800 film is nothing new.

The film is almost certainly the same stuff they sell to Lomography, who market it in 36 exposure cassettes and sometimes 120 as their colour negative 800 ISO film. Nothing whatsoever wrong with that film, it's very good.

And ISO 400/27

(I was detracted by that "grip", unique in my collection.)

just finished A Kodak Single use Camera, and the film in it says it is Type GT (with 4 as the Revision Number) and the bar code is 006937. NO DX CODE on the White Castellated Cassette. The Camera Did Expire Dec 2014 so it might not be current information. FWIW YMMV
Kodak GT film sold as a standalone product in the Yellow cassettes was Known as "Max Zoom 800" for cameras with Zoom Lenses, (and the accompanying small Maximum Apertures)

It would be nice if the Regular version would make a comeback
