New Formulary TF-6 Fixer

Would it be the Amonium Thio formula that uses sulfite and metabisulfite?

I would like to know as well.
 
Mine is odorless as well.

I either eat beans before going into the darkroom and/or use a clothes pin affixed to my nose.
 
I use TF-5 and think its great. Very easy to mix, no smell, quick fix. Says you don't need stop or hypo (although I still use them). Good product.

Ron,

I can not remember the names but I tried the two new fixers that you formulated for Formulary that they sent me to test. Both worked very well for me. No apparent odor and while I did not do any scientific tests, both seemed to have really good capacity. I used for both fixing film and for fixing out silver papers for carbon transfer work.

Have been meaning to comment about this but just slipped my mind.

Yep, thanks Sandy. One was TF-5 and the other was the new one coming when tests are complete.

TF-5 is an economical fixer with high capacity, no odor and no precipitate, so it can be used in any amount the user wishes. It is exactly the same as TF-4 otherwise.

The other fix is a high end, very archival fixer with high capacity, high speed, no odor and no precipitate. It also features shorter wash times or lower water consumption. It therefore fixes and washes faster than TF-4 or TF-5.

I use TF-5, and while I like it, I think it's far from "odorless." It smells like ammonia, imo.
 
It should not, coming from the bottle. It can develop an ammonia smell if you don't use a stop bath and don't drain your prints or film and don't rinse well with water if you dont use a stop.

Is this, by chance, the "superfix" that I just read about, that contains ammonium thiocyanate? (If not, what ever happened to "superfix?" The posts I read about it were a few years old, but there's nothing recent on it.)

Edit: also, it seems that I have TF-4, not TF-5. That's probably the explanation for the slight ammonia smell...

Superfix? Any idea when this one might hit the market?
 
Apparently they are sending out samples to their dealers which is where I saw it yesterday. I just glanced at the front label and I thought it said TF-6. There wasn't a rear label with instructions but there was a small instruction pamphlet - like 2.5x2.5" - with instructions. I also just glanced at it but do recall that it said they wasn't sure of the wash times pending further study. So they are not sure if there are any bugs to correct. It did say that it was odorless and as I came specifically to purchase C-41 bleach and TF-4 I wanted to buy it because of the ororless property (TF-5 says that it is almost odorless. The store checked with the Formulary people but they didn't have pricing yet so the store said they couldn't sell it to me. Hell they could have given it to me seeing that they received it as a free sample and I have spent thousands with them! Anyway, no part number that I noticed (I didn't look) and although I don't know for sure, a "starter" should not be required for a fix. The product was packaged in the same size and type of container as the $25.00 size of TF-5.
