Hello friends,

just for your information:
Leica is adding another classic film Leica to their M rangefinder programme, the Leica M-A:

http://photoscala.de/Artikel/Analog-und-rein-mechanisch-Leica-M-A

The M-A is even more reduced in features than the MP: No built-in lightmeter, therefore no batteries in the camera needed.
Available in black and silver-chrome.

I think that can be seen as a commitment from Leica, that they will continue to produce the classic film M-Leicas, now with even three models:
M7, MP and the new M-A.

Best regards,
Henning

Don't matter to me. I can't afford any of 'em.

I'm very happy that Leica is showing this commitment to film photography. I have a couple of M2's so won't be interested in buying this new camera though.

Beautiful camera! There is now way I could afford it.

Todd

I'd assume a M3 can use IXMOO but a M-A cannot so I'm keeping my M3. Unless they have used a different chassis casting for the M-A from the MP and M7.

The M3 has a better rangefinder as well even if it is not all hard coated.

Either way, interesting, a brand new M3 with no self-timer.

Wonder if it has the beautiful m3 frame lines.

Perhaps but the M3 is a 0.91 finder. This one, like the M2, is a 0.72 finder.

The Leica is an extremely capable, well made camera. It's also a high end status symbol. I suspect most of these will be sold for the latter purpose. Hopefully a few buyers will actually use them for serious photography instead of just wearing them to impress people.

I like how they've managed to design out the pentaprism "hump"; I guess it comes with a kit zoom, 24-70 or something? But I can't see that info anywhere.

I'm teasing my friend, E. but I do applaud Leica for making a new film camera. I wish them well with it.

And I thought Leica was done with film cameras

It's just an MP with less stuff.

and a $200 smaller price tag.

Except the black MP is lacquer on brass and this one I believe is black painted chrome.
