I love B&N. Picked up the UK's Outdoor Photography and for two months in a row I love it. 200+ pages of OH YEAH! Right up my alley. Better than that cheeky USA digi-W**R* publication which I still unfortunately get.

Yes, it is a great magazine. I've read it for the past couple of years.

I felt OP went through a low point a couple of years ago. They seemed to lose a few regular writers to the opposition coupled with the sad death of one of my favourite columnists Steve Day. I nearly stopped getting it, but in the last year or so it's really picked up again, especially after they signed up people like Joe Cornish and Colin Prior. It's a far more intelligent magazine than the other UK mags with less emphasis on hardware. The others are very formulaic and keep on rehashing the same articles year on year, e.g. it's May therefore it's the "Landscape Special" with yet another article on how to use polarisers, ND grads and warmup filters! I also really like the broader articles that people like Nial Benvie do on photography and the environment.

Cheers

Yes, Steve Day was a great photographer, I always enjoyed his work and his words. Joe Cornish is a particular favorite of mine, I carry his book with me whenever I travel. As for Colin Prior, I only feel disgust. He used to write about why he would always be shooting film, then he bought a Canon DSLR, and is now an evangelist for digital, and has dropped film totally (his works shows it).

Is it OP that has maps of the locations where the featured photographs are taken? If so, yeah, I like it too. Unfortunately, I live on the left side of the Atlantic so they're not of much use, but I still like the idea that they do that. Maybe that idea will catch on with a publication over here...maybe I'll win the lottery...maybe I'll be 30 again...maybe....

Yes, in the viewpoints section they always have a location map, it's very common in magazines over here. Despite it being a UK mag, I'm sure that they've had a few locations from your side of the pond, so it may be worth submitting a few slides of your favourite place!

Mike,

You are correct. Ever since Outdoor Photography incorporated Outdoor Travel (I think that was the name), they have featured more images from outside the UK. I'm working on a submission myself; I wonder if anyone in the UK would like pictures of Hawaii.

One other thing, I find the map helps me learn more about the country and its makeup. I hope to travel there next year, and visit some of the places featured, like the Lakes District, and just visit with some APUG members.
