This is the last week to see the exhibit Cuban Interlude, Entremés Cubano by Palo Alto photographer Alejandra Chaverri. This is one of the most unusual displays of photographs we've ever exhibited in the Picturish Gallery. We love the presentation of encaustic mulberry paper photographs as objects with a powerful physicality that reminds us, in this digital age, that engaging with photography is a kinesthetic experience, not just a visual one. http://www.photolaboratory.com/gallery.htm
Opening April 24, 2010 we offer something completely different. Picturish Gallery announces an exhibit of black and white silver gelatin prints, titled Loud and Fast: 15 years of Punk Rock Performances by Berkeley photographer, Larry Wolfley. The show will run from April 24 to June 5, 2010 at the Picturish Gallery, 2235 Fifth Street in Berkeley, California, USA. The exhibit is open to the public, accessible and free of charge. A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, April 24th, from 6 to 8 pm with refreshments and a live DJ. http://www.photolaboratory.com/gallery_page_archive/larrywolfley2010.htm
Larry Wolfley is an east bay photographer who works on the boundary between documentary and fine art. His photographic work is entirely traditional: black & white film and silver gelatin prints hand made in the darkroom. His subject is the Bay Area punk rock scene - the music performances, the people, the locations. He is the house photographer for the club known as 924 Gilman, the oldest all-ages punk rock collective in the United States. Besides his ongoing exhibit at that venue, his work has been featured with the CDs and records of many local bands, and has been published in MaximumRockNRoll magazine and several other outlets.
