It is the film that Maco used to market as 820c, not the current Maco film ( which is aerial film made by Agfa-Gaevert) which has less IR sensitivity.

Efke previously made the film for Maco and is now marketing it under their own name.

Look back a few weeks under the "Product availability" forum for more info.

Fotoimpex in Berlin are the EFKE specialists

No, they're specialist for Adox, and Adox is not Efke .
Freestyle is the specialist for Efke .

Efke, (most) Adox and the Maco IR820C, all produced by Fotokemika (nova) in Croatia.
This Efke IR820C film is produced with a slightly different organic sensitivity dye because the old one (from Maco) was not available anymore.

So more or less the same.

In the mean time Rollei/Maco has produced a new IR 850nm film, based on APX 100 (Agfa) emulsion (also iso 100). This new extended I.R. film should be available in about 2 months.

The Rollei IR-820/400 film (iso 400) is the other Rollei IR film alternative. But the sensitivity of this film is going down fast over 750nm. This film must be used with a 695nm or 715nm "black" I.R. filter to get the 'wood' effect.

Best regards,

Robert

As Robert from Fotohuis has pointed out EFKE films are rebadged as Adox.

This is done for Fotoimpex. Of course unfortunately the situation seems less clear as other film is also rebadged as Adox.

This does not alter the fact that Fotoimpex is a major retail supplier of EFKE film in Europe. (Freestyle is not a European supplier).

Efke and Adox are brands, Fotokemika is a manufacturer (i.e. they coat film).
The brand Efke belongs to Fotokemika and Adox to Fotoimpex. Some, but not all Adox film is coated by Fotokemika and may be available as Efke too. Others were coated by Ilford (afaik) or are coated by Agfa Gevaert (NOT Agfa Photo, who produced APX and MCC and is dead).

This is great news for IR lovers. Along with the 3 films Robert has mentioned above, Ilford's SFX is also back.

The Efke 820 will be coming out in 8x10 and 4x5, according to someone at Freestyle, probably within a few weeks. I already have 5 rolls of 120 that I purchased through Freestyle.

That 850 film should be interesting -- would you expect to see much of a difference between it and the 820?

This is great news for IR lovers.

Sure it is. A real revival of the infra red film business.

About the fomats: Rollei IR820/400 (iso 400) is available in 35mm, 120 roll film and 4x5" sheet film. The same will be valid for the new Rollei 850nm I.R. film (iso 100).

SFX200 should be available in 35mm and 120 roll film.

About the available formats on the Efke IR820C I am not 100% informed.

Further there is still some Kodak HIE (35mm only) available. This (iso 400) I.R. film without A.H.-layer is going over 900nm in sensitivity.

Differences between the Rollei IR820/400 (in fact 750nm) and the Maco IR820C film you can see here:
http://www.moersch-photochemie.de/

(Gallerie (=gallery) --> Vergleiche --> Filme)

You can expect the same differences between a 820nm and 850nm I.R. film  .

On the other hand: The handling of a less sensitized I.R. film in the camera, development and filtering is less critical. And a higher iso rate is more flexible when shooting the photos with the dark infra red filter.

ROLLEI IR / AERO 70mm Film!

MACO can supply the ROLLEI IR/AERO as an 70mm film WITH PERFORATION. Price for the 30.5 meters film is Euro 98.00, promptly ex stock Hamburg/Germany, or, within 2 weeks ex stock FREESTYLE L.A.. More than 100 pieces of this film are ready for quick delivery.

The emulsion is very well known, since already large quantities of ROLLEI IR films are sold/processed in the USA.

In order to anticipate each misunderstandings:

This film can be exposed WITHOUT FILTERS, with the recommended 200 ISO, with a solution of over 150 Lp/mm. exposed as an absolutely "normal" panchromatic film. Only with using of black filters, the film works like an infrared film.

The ROLLEI IR / AERO 70mm film is peforated contrary to the EFKE film, and dissolves substantially more highly!

That's interesting. I'm supposed to be leaving infra-red alone, but I could be tempted!!!!!!
Is there a European stockist?

Hi Dave, Retrophotographic stock both the Efke and Rollei IR films.

So is this the "prototype" that has been sent out for testing? -

I was asked to wait for a reply before a comment - but a comment is long overdue - I can say -- be careful what you wish for, if the IR selectivity of a film is too tight, it can leave much of the image missing due to the lack of an IR component. Imagine a film that was only sensitive to Fire Engine Red. The image would have large gaps with no exposure at all. I think the IR effect is best tempered with some kind of general response or contrast and gaps become overwelming. Just a thought ... Other than that ... there are some pretty cool materials on the horizon ...

Efke, (most) Adox and the Maco IR820C, all

...or are coated by Agfa Gevaert (NOT Agfa Photo, who produced APX and MCC and is dead).

AgfaPhoto only was alive few months before they went into insolvency and receivership, and thereafter most probably did not produce under their name any longer.

Before that they were called Agfa Gevaert too....
Thus this is no good means to distinguish between the German and the Flemish plant.
They were intermingled anyway.

Anyone have example pictures to post for any of these non-HIE films? I just noticed Efke also has an ortho 25 film and I'm thinking of ordering that and the 820IR.

Hey Joe, here is an example of the Efke IR I tried last summer.
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Very nice shot Travis. Looks like 820 is plenty enough with the right filter and vision.

Thanks for posting it.

Well, I use Agfa to name the current company. And to distinguish between the two plants since their merger in 1964 I refer either to Mortsel or Leverkusen.
