New Darkroom Countertop Install!

Finally got off my backside and installed a new wet side counter in my darkroom... Hopefully will be processing some 14x17 XRAY pinholes on it this afternoon...

Great to see a real person in action. Nice one Andrew.

I need to sort my own darkroom out, but I have quite a different problem, it needs a clear out, a sell off of excess enlargers, timers, analysers, and trays, etc.

My darkroom has gone through a few mods over the years. Made it bigger, made it smaller. I found when I made it bigger, I acquired more stuff. Made it smaller, and had to put stuff into storage. No enlargers in my darkroom anymore. Just two UV exposure tables. One an old 1000W halogen vacuum table (which I now use as an overly large light table...it has a couple flourescent tubes), and a DIY UV LED box.

I couldn't take anyone in there. The counter was an embarrassment. That and the mess! Slowly cleaning up and organising. I'm terrible at both!

Hey Andy, looks like you put a good bead of silicone down when you set the sink. What about the perimeter where the counter meet the wall. Did you caulk that?

I went a bit overboard laying the silicone down for the sink...probably over-compensating for lack of silicone when I put the sink down on the old counter, 20 years ago... Yes, I put a bead between counter and wall in the evening. I was wiped! Carrying that 10' counter from the garage, all the around to the back of the house, tweaked a few muscles in my shoulder. Nothing sore today, thankfully!

Looks great, Andrew. I wish I could work at that speed and with that confidence. Changing either tap washers is a major task for me

I cut out all the bad bits, otherwise the video would have been loooooong, ending up as an 8 part "not for kids" mini-series on Netflix! As for the speedy work, blame it on the huge pot of Ty-Phoo tea.

Thankfully the sink didn't drop through the counter while making a print... or even worse, while developing film in the dark!

Good job Andy, but there is one thing I would have done differently. I would have done all my cutting outside to minimize dust in the DR. I used to install counter tops in bio labs and have clean room certification.

Oh I wouldn’t worry to much, that dust should give Andy’s carbon prints a nice texture.

I was originally going to do that, but that countertop was quite heavy. Carting it around was a pain, literally. I have bad photographer's elbow from lugging that gitzo tripod around LOL! The space wasn't quite square, so I have to drag it back out for another date with the skill saw... I forgot it's measure twice cut once, not the other way around!

I generally measure once and cut twice or more.
